Tonganoxie USD 464 is proud to announce Kelli Cummings, art teacher at Tonganoxie High School, as our 2026–27 Kansas Horizon Award nominee! ❤️🖤💛

Sponsored by the Kansas State Department of Education, the Kansas Horizon Award Program recognizes outstanding novice teachers who demonstrate excellence in the classroom and distinguish themselves among other early-career educators.

During her first year in the classroom, Kelli has already made a wonderful impression on her students and colleagues. Her creativity, enthusiasm, and passion for art shine through in everything she does, inspiring students to explore their own creativity and discover the joy of artistic expression. 🎨🖌️

THS CTE teachers in action

Marcia Irvine, Director of the KCKCC Pioneer Career Center, gave Alicia Hendron, Vocational Agriculture teacher; Henry Schardt, Industrial Arts teacher; and Sydney Noe, Family and Consumer Science teacher, from Tonganoxie High School, a tour of the KCKCC Pioneer Career Center. The Tonganoxie High School teachers were able to see what CTE programs the Leavenworth campus has to offer their students after graduation

We are incredibly proud to announce our 2026–2027 Kansas Teacher of the Year (KTOY) nominees from Tonganoxie USD 464!

The Kansas Teacher of the Year program, sponsored by the Kansas State Department of Education, recognizes and celebrates outstanding educators who exemplify excellence in elementary and secondary classrooms across Kansas.

Our nominees have the opportunity to represent Tonganoxie USD 464 and, ultimately, Kansas on a statewide stage. KTOY state finalists serve as ambassadors for education across Kansas and are nominated to represent Kansas in the National Teacher of the Year program!

Healthy Futures, a program through Heartland Community Health Center, provides convenient dental care right at school—including exams, X-rays, cleanings, sealants, fluoride, and fillings when applicable.
