Weekend ceremonies will continue at Gratwick Park with this incredible event hosted by the Erie-Niagara Sunrise Exchange Club.

Location: Delaware Street near Ilion

Personnel: C-Shift on duty, Assistant Chief Malley, Captain Haskill, Firefighters D'Agostino, Litz-Custer, Schreader; supplemented with off-duty personnel and mutual aid companies (North Tonawanda, Kenmore, Sheridan Park)

TFD was dispatched for a residential fire at 0521. On arrival, crews found a heavy exterior fire, and TPD was assisting residents with evacuation. Crews extinguished the exterior fire, then entered the home and found fire on the second floor and in the attic. Extensive overhaul was needed to ensure complete extinguishment. The residents and pets are safe; one firefighter did suffer a minor injury. Damages are estimated at $125,000.

Congratulations to captains Eric Krzeminski and Nick Haskill on completing the First Line Supervisor's Training Program (FLSTP) in New York City over the last few weeks. This required program provides both classroom and hands-on training in a number of disciplines, including leadership, fireground tactics, and others.

Location: Scott Street near Young

Personnel: Assistant Chief Mast, firefighters D. Angelo, C. Moore, S. Meyer, A. Van Schoonhoven; supplemented by off-duty and volunteer personnel, and mutual aid companies.

City of Tonawanda Fire was dispatched for the report of an electrical issue and a wall that was hot to the touch. Firefighters found fire in a wall chase near the breaker panel. Balloon-frame construction allowed the fire to run from the first floor to the attic. The fire was extinguished, and walls and ceilings were opened to check for hot spots.
Residents safely evacuated prior to TFD arrival. No firefighters were injured during the incident. Damages are estimated at $50,000. Residents are being assisted by the Red Cross.

Broad Street at Seymour is still shut down due a traffic accident this morning. National Grid estimates it may take until 9:00 PM to open up.

The Tonawanda Fire Department would like to thank New York State Senator Jeremy Zellner for awarding us a $200,000 grant for equipment. Our plan is to acquire SCBA equipment, including providing firefighters with their own masks. We also plan to get a washer that will clean carcinogens from our gear, which fits with the fire service’s overall goal of reducing cancer rates among firefighters.
