One of the things I really enjoy about Ocean County is how many beautiful parks we have right here in our own backyard. Some of the best time is getting outside with family, taking a walk and enjoying a little time together. September is a great time to do just that, and our County parks give us plenty of places to enjoy.

The County’s “Find a Park” interactive map makes it easy to find a park near you and see what each location has to offer.

https://oceancountyparks.org/frmFindPark Take a look and maybe find a new park to enjoy this fall.

Today, on International Overdose Awareness Day, we officially kick off Ocean Goes Purple, a countywide effort I am proud to support alongside my fellow Commissioners and the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office

Today, agencies throughout Ocean County are gathered outside the Prosecutor’s Office to connect residents with treatment, recovery, and support resources. At last week’s Board meeting, I talked about this important initiative and today we’re putting those words into action. Ocean Goes Purple is about more than turning buildings purple. It’s about remembering those we’ve lost, supporting those in recovery, helping families affected by addiction, and reducing the stigma that can keep people from asking for help.

The opioid epidemic won’t be solved overnight. But by working together and making sure people know they’re not alone, we can make a difference. Thank you to the Prosecutor’s Office and all of our community partners for bringing Ocean County together for this important effort. Together, Ocean County Goes Purple. 💜 Ocean County Government

I want to share a really useful resource from Ocean County GIS that can make finding County services a whole lot easier. The Ocean Services Locator lets you search for County departments and services, browse by category, or simply explore the map and see what’s available near you. 👉 Check it out here: https://ocgis-oceancountygis.hub.arcgis.com/

This is just one of the tools Ocean County GIS has been developing. They continue to find new ways to use technology to make County information easier to access and easier for residents to use. This is exactly the kind of technology that can make government work better. I encourage you to take a look, bookmark it, and share it with someone who might find it useful.

Today, on National Dog Day, I want to recognize Jager, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office therapy dog, for the important work he does for our community. 🐾

As we close out National Wellness Month this August, Jager is a great example of how wellness can come in many forms. Jager and his handler, OCPO Agent Mark Stanish, provide comfort, emotional support and compassionate outreach to first responders, military families and community members during some of life’s most difficult moments.

Sometimes, wellness comes with four legs, a wagging tail and a pretty special ability to make people feel a little better.

Thank you, Jager, Agent Stanish and all of the working dogs who make a difference in the lives of others. 🐶💙

🌾 Help Us Shape the Future of Farming in Ocean County! Farming has always been an important part of Ocean County, and protecting our farmland means protecting a piece of what makes our community special. The County is updating its Farmland Preservation Plan, and we want to hear from you.

Your feedback will help us make smart decisions about how we use the Open Space Trust Fund to preserve farmland, support local agriculture, and make sure future generations can enjoy this part of Ocean County.

As we head into the weekend, I’m reminded how fortunate we are to live in a community where people look out for one another. Whether it’s a neighbor helping a neighbor, a volunteer giving their time, a first responder answering a call, or a county employee making sure the job gets done, it all adds up.

I hope everyone has a chance to slow down this weekend, enjoy some time with family and friends, and take in a little of what makes Ocean County such a great place to call home. Have a great weekend, everyone!

Open space is about much more than keeping land undeveloped. It is about protecting the character of Ocean County and making sure future generations can enjoy it. Our Natural Lands Trust has already preserved more than 30,000 acres from development.

As Ocean County continues to grow, preserving open space becomes even more important. Once land is developed, we can’t get it back. I believe we have a responsibility to think beyond today and protect the natural resources and quality of life that make Ocean County such a great place to live.

I encourage everyone to learn more about Ocean County’s Open Space program, what has already been accomplished, and what we can do to preserve our County for the future.

August is National Wellness Month, and it's a good reminder that wellness is about more than just exercise. It's about taking care of our mental health, staying connected to our community, spending time outdoors, supporting our families, and knowing where to turn when we need a little help.

Here in Ocean County, so many of our County departments and programs play an important role in helping our residents live healthier, happier and more connected lives.

Take care of yourself. Check in on a friend. Get outside. Ask for help when you need it. Let's make wellness a priority, not just this month, but all year long.
