Tompkinsville National Cemetery (AKA The Old Soldiers Cemetery)

Tompkinsville National Cemetery (AKA The Old Soldiers Cemetery) Established in 1861 as a national military cemetery for the burial of Union soldiers during the Civil War.

This cemetery was originally named The Tompkinsville National Cemetery. My objective here is to preserve the history of this cemetery. We seem to have forgotten that this was once a national military cemetery, hopefully future generations will remember.

If you have been by the Old Soldiers Cemetery and noticed a new section of chain link fence going up to replace the rusty damaged old fence, I am happy to report that it is finished and looks great. This was accomplished by the generous contribution in honor of the Strong family. Tony and Josh Strong made all the arrangements and saw the project to completion. Spring is just around the corner and the mowing season starts. Please if you can donate to keep this Historic Cemetery looking nice. There is a secure donation box at the lower gate on 2nd Street and information where to donate is in the photos

First mowing of 2024. As you can see in the photos 2 head stones were victims of this March wind. I don't know the name or names on the front. It is Scott on the back, I have also posted the rocks that are to the left and right. I have set many stones back up over the last 7 years but this one is to big for 1 man. If you know the family please let them know. I will be glad to help if there is enough help to set it up. The base is leaning and really needs reset. The small stone wasn't a problem to stand back up. I may be able to figure the names on the front by the book Chad Comer did on Old Soldiers Cemetery Thank you, Sid Hale
