As EMS Week winds down, I want to thank all of our staff for their hard work and dedication to the service and to the Tomah Community. In 2024, we ran a record number of calls for service, 3,661 calls. Without our field staff and our administrative staff, providing this level of service to our community wouldn't be possible.

All of our Critical Care Paramedics, Paramedics, Advanced EMTs, and EMTs are committed to providing the best pre-hospital care we can.

During EMS Week, staff from Tomah Health Emergency Department provided meals to our three shifts. On Friday, Liberty Village of Tomah provided meals to the on duty crews. Our crews were stopped in public and thanked for their service. It is because of the support of the community we are able to retain the amazing staff we have.

But there is one more group of people we wish to thank. Our families. Our full-time staff works 48 hours on, and 96 hours off. Without a strong family support system, being gone for 2 or more days straight would be impossible. Our part-time staff works from 5 - 48 hours depending on their ability. Most of our part-time staff work full-time jobs as well. Having a strong support system is a necessity for the type of work we do.

So thank you to our staff, our community, and mostly, our families. With out any one of you, this wouldn't be possible.

October 29th is World Stroke Day!

* 80% of strokes are preventable! Know YOUR
risk factors!
* Call 911 and get to the Emergency Room (ER)
FAST upon stroke recognition.

Based on type of stroke and your history you may be eligible for treatment:

* Clot-busting medication may be offered up to
4.5 hours after stroke onset.
AND/OR
* Procedure to remove clots/control bleeding
may be offered up to 24 hours after stroke
onset.

Faster treatment = LESS Brain Cell Death and possible elimination of symptoms!

If you think you or someone may be having a stroke, BE FAST by recognizing:
B - BALANCE: Does the person have sudden loss
of balance?
E - EYES: Did the person experience vision loss
or double vision?
F - FACE: Ask the person to smile. Does one side
of the face droop?
A - ARMS: Ask the person to raise both arms.
Does one arm drift downward?
S - SPEECH: Ask the person to repeat a simple
phrase. Is the speech slurred or strange?
T - TERRIBLE HEADACHE

If you see any of these signs, call 911!

All ERs can administer the clot-busting medication and if the person suffering a stroke qualifies for a procedure the ER will coordinate with a regional stroke facility who can complete the procedural intervention necessary.

9 years ago today, we were welcoming Ambulance 266 to the fleet. Today we welcome Ambulance 269, and our new paint job and graphics design back to the fleet!!!

Ambulance 269 is a remount completed by Everest Emergency Vehicles, Inc. A remount is taking the box off of the old Ambulance 269, cleaning it up a bit, adding a little paint, and giving it a shine before placing it on a brand new 2024 Ford E450 chassis (it had 9.9 miles on it when we picked it up 😄). The remount option saves us half of the cost of purchasing a new ambulance!!

Over the next few years, all of our ambulances will switch over to the new paint and graphics design as they go through the remount process.

Watch for Ambulance 269 in the service area after it's inspection next Tuesday. (It will be the only red and black one!).
