We regret to announce the passing of Jim Michaud. Jim was a photographer who worked for the Journal Inquirer (later Hearst Media) where he captured many emergency scenes and events of Tolland Fire, and surrounding fire departments, that were in the daily newspaper for over 37 years since 1989. Below are some of the photos he took of Tolland Firefighters: Tolland Firefighters overhauling after a structure fire on Eaton Road, November 1989; Tolland Firefighter picking up debris after a motorcycle accident, April 1990; Hobby World structure fire, June 1990; Tolland Firefighters operating at a structure fire at the Stafford Lumber Yard (a few of Tolland Firefighters are in this image), April 1991; Tolland Firefighters performing vertical ventilation off of Truck 240 at a structure fire in Stafford Easter, 1993; Tolland Firefighters extinguishing a garage fire on North River Road, April 1999; Tolland Christmas Tour December 2012; and Tolland Firefighter removing an attic vent fan after a structure fire on Tolland Stage Road, July 2019. Jim, may you rest in peace, and thank you for capturing our department through photos throughout the years!

MEMORIAL DAY PARADE CANCELLED:

Due to the forecast for significant sustained rain and cold temperatures, the Tolland Memorial Day Parade scheduled for Sunday at 1:00pm has been canceled.

This difficult decision was made collaboratively and by consensus between the Tolland Town Council leadership, the Permanent Celebration Committee, and the Town Manager’s Office. Thank you to Tolland residents Kevin Wood for his consistent forecast update updates over the last three days.

We recognize how important this annual tradition is to our community and appreciate the tremendous effort that goes into organizing and participating in the parade each year. Most importantly, we continue to honor and remember the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.

Thank you for your understanding.

Last night, Tolland Firefighters practiced their vehicle extrication skills on junk vehicles. Firefighters trained on vehicle stabilization, operating the jaws of life, and operating other speciality cutting tools. They also reviewed electric vehicle (EV) emergencies, and utilized an EV plug on one of our firefighter’s Teslas to disable the EV in the event an EV is invloved in a vehicle accident. All of these tools utilized assist firefighters with extricating a victim from a vehicle and help to make the vehicle accident scene safe. Thank you to Bills Auto Parts for donating the vehicles!
