It's national chess day! Please enjoy this poem from a student wishing to remain anonymous:

In Woodberry Park, where minds take flight,
The chess club gathers, bright with light.
At Jones Leadership, young hearts aspire,
To learn, to think, to climb up higher.

From Ella P. Stewart they come with pride,
From Escuela SMART, they stand side by side.
At Grove Patterson, they sharpen their skill,
And Jones students move with focus and will.

For twelve strong years, they’ve honed their game,
With Warren and Yolanda Woodberry’s name.
Their guidance steady, their wisdom clear,
Teaching students how to persevere.

With every move, each pawn, each knight,
They’re learning life, they’re seeking light.
Supported by Romules Durant’s care,
The superintendent always there.

In every check, in every mate,
They grasp the power to innovate.
With patience, strategy, and might,
They grow, they learn, their minds take flight.

At Woodberry Park Chess Club, dreams are real,
Through chess, they find their minds' true zeal.

Mr. Jaron Pullie, 6th grade teacher at Robinson Elementary School has intrigued his 6th grade students with the game of chess. Mr. Pullie has incorporated the game into his lessons and the kids are really benefiting academically from learning the game. His students benefit by playing chess not only as a reward for finishing their work but also as a little competition between themselves!. Way to go Mr. Pullie for being and bringing chess to Robinson!
