We are forever bound together in the spirit of friendship.

The Toledo (OH) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated enjoyed an evening of creativity and connection as members crafted custom candles, blending their favorite fragrances to create the perfect ambiance.

While our candles set, members shared delicious bites, laughter, and a lively game of bingo with some wonderful prizes along the way.

And yes… there were definitely a few “pour decisions” made throughout the evening.

Some places ask you to pause. Assin Manso and Cape Coast Castle are among them.

Members of the Toledo (OH) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated and friends stood on sacred ground at Assin Manso, where so many took their last bath before being forced onto ships. It is a place of stillness and memory. As we walked that path, we honored those who came before us, reflecting on lives interrupted and legacies that continue through us.

At Cape Coast Castle, the history became even more tangible. Walking through the dungeons, seeing the conditions, and standing at the Door of No Return is something that cannot be understood from a book alone. It is felt. It is carried.

These moments were difficult, but necessary. They deepened our understanding, strengthened our connection to one another, and reinforced why our work in service and community matters.

We did not leave unchanged. We left with a greater sense of responsibility to honor the past through how we lead, serve, and show up in the present.

This is why we travel. Not just to see, but to remember. Not just to learn, but to carry forward.

The Toledo (OH) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated was proud to partner in the Giggles Fun Fest held on April 2nd in Peki Avetile, Ghana, joining Leila’s Promise in support of a meaningful, community-centered effort.

The initiative, led by NYO Impact Foundation in collaboration with Kuk_Keys Real Estate was designed to merge recreation with essential health services to improve child welfare across underserved communities in the Volta Region of Ghana.

More than 400 children attended a day filled with learning, connection, and joy. Chapter members, Leila’s Promise, and employees from Thermo Fisher Scientific delivered and led hands-on STEM activities, guiding children through bubbling lava experiments and invisible ink. These moments created space for curiosity and discovery while making science both accessible and engaging.

The day also extended beyond recreation. Uninsured children were registered for healthcare services, helping families take an important step toward ongoing care. Children played games, danced, enjoyed face painting, shared meals, and received Easter baskets filled with donated items from the Toledo (OH) Chapter.

This partnership reflects what can happen when organizations come together with intention. It was a day grounded in service, with a clear focus on supporting children not only in the moment, but in ways that can shape their well-being moving forward.
