Ovarian Cancer Connection

Ovarian Cancer Connection The OCC has been raising awareness about ovarian and other gynecologic cancers throughout NW Ohio and SE Michigan.

For the women affected by these cancers, we provide resources, education, and financial support. Ovarian Cancer Awareness and Community Support

The Ovarian Cancer Connection (OCC) provides financial assistance to survivors in treatment who are in need of help. An application is available on our website ovarianconnection.org or call 419-866-6622. We also raise awareness by educating the community

on the signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer. We have speakers available should you ever need someone to come talk at a gathering. Donations can be made by visiting our website at ovarianconnection.org. 100% of the money raised will stay local to support women with ovarian or other gynecological cancers, as well as allow us to continue to provide literature to further educate on the symptoms of various gynecological cancers. Earlier today 2 OCC Board Members, Luanne Strow and Amy Amy Creque Stone presented to a group of nursing students at Mercy College about the Ovarian Cancer Connection, the Omentum Project, and their ovarian cancer connections- one being a cancer survivor, and another from a loved ones perspective. The students seemed very interested and engaged. Hopefully today's presentation will be impactful in their careers and lives.

Thank you for the invitation that allows us to continue to raise awareness.

If your would like a presentation about our organization to a group you are involved with, please reach out to the OCC.

The University of Toledo’s second-oldest tradition returns to Savage Arena on Saturday, March 28, with student organizations coming together onstage to raise proceeds for the Ovarian Cancer Connection nonprofit.

Co-hosted by Blue Key Honor Society and Mortar Board National Senior Honor Society, the 89th annual Songfest will blend school spirit with service, creating a night where creativity meets cause and where the impact reaches well beyond the final performance.

Songfest, UToledo’s second-oldest tradition, returns to Savage Arena on Saturday, with student organizations coming together onstage to raise proceeds for the Ovarian Cancer Connection nonprofit.

This year’s theme, “Lights, Camera, Rockets,” will spotlight classic film songs, with the student groups reimagining these iconic songs from cinema as high-energy routines.

“Songfest is one of the most meaningful traditions at The University of Toledo and brings organizations together through creativity, teamwork and philanthropy,” said Ashton Widenhoefer, an emcee representing Mortar Board National Senior Honor Society. “The dedication and passion students put into every performance help support the Ovarian Cancer Connection, which makes our impact extend far beyond the stage.”

Based in Toledo, the Ovarian Cancer Connection is a nonprofit that provides awareness, education and support to individuals affected by ovarian and gynecological cancers across Northwest Ohio and Southeast Michigan. Funds raised through Songfest directly support local patients and their families.

“As someone who loves UToledo history, this event is truly special to me,” said Jaden Bollinger, an emcee representing Blue Key Honor Society. “Songfest is in its 89th year, and it’s incredible to see how it has grown into such a campus mainstay. Teams spend months preparing for just a few minutes on stage, and it shows. The performances will take your breath away and the energy inside Savage Arena is unmatched.”

Songfest donations to Ovarian Cancer Connection can be made through the event’s SignUp Genius webpage.

The efficacy of cancer screening tests being advertised directly to the public (Cancerguard, Galleri or others) has yet to be determined. None of these tests have yet been approved by the FDA and are generally not covered by insurance. These tests are laboratory-developed, blood based multi-cancer detection tests that analyze signals in the blood to identify potential cancer presence, but do not necessarily confirm the type or stage of cancer. After a positive result, further imaging and medical testing would be required to confirm or disprove a diagnosis. The technology is exciting, and certainly OCRA is supportive of efforts to continue to explore novel methods of early detection and promote equitable access. So far, however, the results of clinical trials for these tests, which are ongoing, have not demonstrated that they help improve outcomes for ovarian cancer patients. OCRA will continue to follow the progression of this new diagnostic strategy and will provide updates when available.
