Norma Ramos Prater, our Hispanic/Latino outreach coordinator and a victim advocate, connected with community members and shared information about how our office can help.

Events like this strengthen relationships and ensure more people know where to turn for support.

Today is Wear Blue Day across Ohio and the Lucas County Prosecutor's Office stands in support of preventing child abuse and neglect.

Members of our office planted blue pinwheels in the garden of the Lucas County Courthouse to honor the children impacted by abuse in cases our office advocated for over the past year.

One is too many.

Last week, Patricia Wardrop and Melissa Nowakowski from the Juvenile Division of the Lucas County Prosecutor’s Office spoke to about 150 fifth through eighth grade students at Christ the King Catholic School Toledo about cyberbullying and how to stay safe online.

The internet can be a powerful tool, but it also comes with risks. Our team discussed responsible online behavior, recognizing cyberbullying and what steps students can take if they or someone they know needs help.

We appreciate the opportunity to connect with students and continue proactive education efforts in Lucas County.

Over the last month, the Lucas County Prosecutor’s Office connected with students at Bowling Green State University for its Criminal Justice Internship & Career Fair and at The University of Toledo for the Criminal Justice and ROTC Career & Internship Fair.

Members of our team spoke with students about the many opportunities available within our office. While many think of prosecutors when they picture our work, our team also includes victim advocates, criminal analysts, investigators and other professionals who play a vital role in serving Lucas County.

We appreciate the opportunity to meet the next generation of public servants and share how a career in public service can make a direct impact in our community.

Lucas County Prosecuting Attorney Julia R. Bates recently met with students at the University of Toledo College of Law's Government and Public Interest Forum.

Joined by Chief of the Criminal Division Jennifer Liptack-Sutphin and Assistant Prosecutor Randy L. Meyer, Prosecutor Bates discussed the benefits of public service in the LCPO. They also answered questions about internships for law students, offering insights into careers in the prosecutor's office.

Lucas County Prosecuting Attorney Julia R. Bates and the Lucas County Prosecutor's Office are warning Lucas County residents about phone scams involving callers falsely claiming to represent the office.

Our office does not call residents to ask why they missed a court date. If you receive a suspicious call, hang up and contact our office directly at 419-213-4700 during normal business hours to verify the call.

In general with phone calls, do not share personal or financial information and never send money or gift cards in response to unsolicited calls.

Lucas County Prosecutor's Office is closed today, Dec. 31, and Jan. 1 in observance of the New Year holiday. The office will reopen for normal business hours on Jan. 2, 2026.

As you celebrate the New Year, please do so responsibly and safely. We appreciate our law enforcement partners who will be working through the holiday to keep our community safe. If celebrations go too far, they will be there to step in.
