WHAT IS CEDAW?

CEDAW is the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women. Commonly referred to as the international bill of rights for women, CEDAW provides nations with a framework to tackle gender equity. Since its introduction in 1979, 189 UN states have ratified the treaty.

The United States is the only industrialized nation which has not ratified the treaty.

Cities for CEDAW has become a national campaign with the goal to "protect the rights of women and girls by passing legislation establishing the principles of CEDAW in cities and town across the United States." So far, the campaign has successfully created CEDAW ordinances in nine major cities across the United States with dozens of others following suit.

Now is Toledo's time. Let's work together to create gender equity in our city.
