FCAPC Family and Child Abuse Prevention Center works to promote healthy relationships and break the cycle of family violence so every home can be a safe home.

The Family and Child Abuse Prevention Center was founded in 1974 by local pediatrician, Dr. Bernard Cullen, and a small group of concerned citizens, who saw first hand the devastating effects of child abuse. While child protection and law enforcement agencies have a crucial role in child protection, our founders had the foresight to see the need for additional community partners. From the compassi

on, dedication, and vision of this small group of people, an organization has evolved with dedicated professionals who diligently work to break the cycle of family violence. With offices in Lucas and Ottawa counties, Family and Child Abuse Prevention Center serves over 50,000 people each year.

April is Child Abuse Awareness Month, and today we wear blue to stand up for children everywhere. 💙

Every child deserves to feel safe, valued, and protected. By wearing blue, we’re raising awareness, showing support for survivors, and reminding our community that we all play a role in protecting our kids.

Let’s continue to speak up, check in, and create spaces where children can thrive. Small actions can make a big difference.

💜 Every community is grieving in the wake of the recent domestic-violence murder-suicide. Events like this are heartbreaking—and they are also a reminder that domestic violence is a critical public-health and safety issue affecting individuals and families every day.

Here’s what the public needs to know:

🔹 Domestic violence can happen to anyone. It affects people of all ages, backgrounds, and relationships. What happens behind closed doors is often hidden, and victims may feel isolated, afraid, or unsure of where to turn.

🔹 Warning signs are real and serious: escalating aggression, threats of harm, controlling behavior, stalking, and access to weapons all increase danger. If something feels unsafe, trust that instinct.

🔹 Support is available—confidentially and without judgment. No one has to navigate abuse alone. Our agency provides services including crisis support, safety planning, shelter referrals, and counseling.

🔹 If you or someone you know is in danger, reach out:
📞 Ohio Domestic Violence Hotline: 800-799-SAFE (7233) or visit thehotline.org
📞 Family and Child Abuse Prevention Center 419-244-3053
You can call for yourself, for someone else, or even just to ask questions.

Domestic violence is preventable. Together, we can support survivors, raise awareness, and help ensure every person in our community has the opportunity to live safely and free from fear.

💜 You are not alone.

Ohio domestic violence deaths have surged to a 10-year high, prompting advocates to emphasize that help is available for those in abusive relationships.
