Aurora Project, Inc. The Aurora Project, Inc. is a comprehensive housing and life skills program that empowers homeless women and their children. are offered to our families.

Aurora is a supportive housing program for homeless women and children. We provide many services, all designed to lead a woman from homelessness to self-sufficiency and independence. Intensive case management, as well as programs such as Life Skills, Parent Education, Creative Exploration, Financial Management, etc. It is Aurora's purpose to provide a "hand up" and not simply a "hand out".

Supporters of the Aurora Project are familiar with the agency’s struggle against the “housing first” model which was adopted by the federal government a few years ago. In a reversal, the government has come to realize that providing “wraparound” services to create self-sufficiency is a better model than housing first.

This is a critical change, as it swings the pendulum back to the model which is at the core of the Aurora Project’s mission!

Aurora is also extremely cost effective with regards to children…The cost of a child living at Aurora is less than the cost of a child in foster care … and the child remains with his/her mother.

Today's Aurora "40 for the 40th" installment:

Homeless mothers affect their children…Not only adults are affected by homelessness; the children of homeless mothers also face many challenges of their own:
* Significant developmental delays
*. Lack of socialization skills/low self esteem
* Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
* Health challenges
* School-related challenges
* Mental health diagnoses
This is why it is also important for the children to feel supported, in an environment that provides stability. This is what Aurora offers for mothers AND their children.

Today's Aurora "40 for the 40th" installment:

Not all homeless programs are created equal, nor do they have the same purpose…Aurora is a Transitional Housing Program, designated to bridge the gap between short-term shelter or inadequate housing and permanent housing for women with or without children. Aurora offers life skills, fiscal management, relapse prevention, GED tutoring and many more programs to fit the needs of the women and children.
