Well, 2024 New Years Roping is in the books! Huge Thank You to all the ropers that made this event a success. 2024 paid out over $25,000 in cash and prizes and continues to grow each and every year. We strive to increase the opportunities to ropers on the Navajo Nation while giving all of what Tolani Lake has to offer.
From the production team, the cattle, and the food, all was provided from our small community which started producing team roping events back in the 1980's.
With many new up and coming talent competing alongside the past 20 years toughest ropers, including our legendary cowboys, this event was everything. The nostalgia of the short go took us back to 10 second barriers, 5 second leg penalties, and starting from high call back.
When the dust settled, Laramie Martinez from Bloomfield, NM was our big winner walking away with the $10,000 in a custom leather wallet. But we had a few others with plenty of call backs in the short round that did not fall through. Doyle Lee of Rock Point had 2nd and 3rd call backs, with tough luck on both runs. Legendary Roger Gishie gave the young ones a scare with 3 calls in the top 10. Equally talented brother, Lariat Martinez placed twice in the money but fell short in points. And, fast slingin Brandon Chee of Leupp smoked a quick 6 second run to climb to second in the average with another call back a few runs after which gave him a chance. It was a good tough roping, 23rd call back placed 2nd and 1.10 seconds was the difference between 1st and 6th.
Without the contributions from the following, we could not have pulled this off, THANK YOU -
