Bacon is on the skillet! 🥓🍳

Take a guess in the comments how many fresh-cracked eggs we’ll use this year! We’ll be serving from 7–11 — come hungry and enjoy the best breakfast around. We can’t wait to see everyone! 👨‍🚒

Once again, MTFD would like to thankOscar's Restaurant for generously donating a large portion of the food for our fundraiser. It’s truly a great place to eat with even better owners and staff behind it.

We look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow!

We’re excited to announce that we have officially entered into an Auto Aid Agreement with the Monroe Township Fire Department!

An auto aid agreement goes above and beyond a traditional mutual aid agreement. With mutual aid, additional departments are requested after crews arrive and determine they need more resources. With auto aid, both departments are dispatched at the same time on certain calls—like structure fires—ensuring help is already on the way from the very beginning.

Why this matters:

đźš’ Faster Response Times
Auto aid eliminates the delay of requesting additional resources. More firefighters, apparatus, and water supply resources are en route immediately, which can make a critical difference in saving lives and property.

🔥 Stronger Fireground Operations
Having additional crews arriving early allows for quicker fire attack, search and rescue, ventilation, and water supply operations. This leads to a more organized and efficient incident scene from the start.

👨‍🚒 Improved Firefighter Safety
More personnel on scene early means crews can operate in teams, rotate more effectively, and reduce fatigue—helping keep everyone safer during high-risk incidents.

đź’§ Better Water Supply Capabilities
In areas without hydrants, early-arriving mutual resources are crucial for water shuttle operations. Auto aid ensures tankers and support equipment are already responding without delay.

📉 Lower Insurance (ISO) Ratings
Auto aid agreements can positively impact a community’s ISO (Insurance Services Office) rating. ISO evaluates fire protection capabilities, including response times, staffing, and available resources. By guaranteeing additional personnel and apparatus are dispatched immediately, auto aid strengthens our overall fire protection system—which can help lower insurance premiums for residents and businesses.

This agreement reflects our continued commitment to working together, improving service, and going above and beyond for the communities we serve.

This year at MTFD’s Annual Pancake Breakfast, our goal is to raise money to purchase new radios.

Currently, MTFD has radios that are past their service life. This means when one breaks or has issues, it can no longer be repaired. We have already experienced several incidents, including fires, where communication failures occurred due to radios not working properly.

Communication on the fireground is extremely important and plays a critical role in keeping our members and the people we serve safe.

New portable radios cost between $5,000 and $6,000 each, so every bit of support helps.

With that being said, please stop out and join us on Saturday, March 21st for our Annual Pancake Breakfast. Enjoy a great breakfast while supporting a great cause!

On 12/29/2025 at 10:37 pm The Monroe Township Fire Department was dispatched to Chain Lakes Rd for fire in the ceiling and visible flames. Upon arrival crews found a working fire throughout the attic space of the home. Monroe Township crews quickly noted an all clear of any occupants in the home and had the fire under control within 10 minutes. With the fire being in the attic space, salvage and overhaul operations took awhile as crews were working at minimizing any further damage while searching for any additional hot spots. No civilians or firefighters were injured during the incident. The cause of fire remains under investigation. Special Thank you to our partners in Public Safety. Hiawatha Fire Department, Robins Fire Department, Palo Fire Dept, Center Point Volunteer Fire Department, Shellsburg Fire Department and The Linn County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch and Deputies for assistance during the incident.

We enjoyed the opportunity to go to Coggon and share information, and try some new things. Thank you to Coggon Fire for sponsoring the class and to all the departments that brought apparatus and equipment to use during the day. The only way to truly learn is to apply the information from class and then put it into practice. It was great to see a group of firefighters who were so willing to expand upon their knowledge base. I would also like to thank Kaleb McBurney, Kean McBurney, Zach Cooper, and Zeb Schneider for your assistance in teaching the class.

We would like to congratulate Junior Firefighter Mitchell Fagle for receiving a blue ribbon at the state fair for his Cribbing and Stabilization Maze.
The maze is used as a team building exercise utilizing cribbing, air bags, spreaders, and pry tools to move a ball through the maze from the start point to the end point. Crews use the spreader, air bags and pry tools to raise the maze and make the ball move. While raising and lowering, the crews also need to crib under the maze to ensure that it stable and does not fall. This requires a lot of team communication and working together to achieve a shared goal.
Once again, Congratulations Mitchell it is great to see our young Firefighters seeing the success of their hard work and commitment to community service.
