🌊 VOLUNTEERS PULL 800 POUNDS OF HELENE DEBRIS FROM THE SOUTH FORK NEW RIVER
Seven volunteers with the New River Conservancy cleared a stretch of the South Fork New River from New River Castle Ford to Green Valley Park last week — hauling out 800 pounds of Hurricane Helene debris, including 8 tires, 3 pool noodles, a cellphone, a tarp, lumber, and countless bottles and cans.
The milestone: the New River Conservancy says the first 30 miles of the South Fork New River are now in clean condition.
"We can now say that the first 30 miles of the South Fork are in perfect condition and wouldn't be without all the support from our partners and volunteers!" — Will Sowards, New River Conservancy
Another cleanup is set for this Saturday — Todd Island to Green Meadows. Sign-up link in the comments.
Partners: Keep Ashe Beautiful, NC Works, and NC Wildlife Federation's High Country Wild.
