Yesterday, our Manufacturing Challenge participants toured G-M Wood Products, Patterson Pump, ASI Southeast, Pak-Pro, and Sark Wire!
The Manufacturing Challenge was created for graduating seniors who had not yet determined their post-graduation plan. This collaborative effort between the Stephens County School System, North Georgia Technical College, WorkSource Georgia Mountains, and SCDA, connects students with local employers while preparing them for the workforce. While participating in the program, students receive valuable training from NGTC, including Forklift Certification, OSHA Certification, LEAN manufacturing, first aid, tape and rule measurement, blueprint reading, soft skills, and more. Also during this two week challenge students are able to explore manufacturing career opportunities in our community building a pathway to gainful employment after high school.
The industry tours are an important part of the experience, giving students a firsthand look at local manufacturing careers while allowing employers to meet potential employees. Next week, participating industries will have the opportunity to interview students as they graduate from the program, creating a direct connection between workforce training and employment opportunities.
Thank you to our industry partners for investing in the future workforce of Stephens County!
