Today's Holiday Hero is Officer Joseph Barek of the Tiverton Police Department!

"One of the most important jobs we have as officers is being visible and actively conducting traffic stops," said Officer Barek. "People seeing us perform SFSTs, make arrests, and tow vehicles serves as a deterrent not just for the person we’re dealing with, but for everyone who witnesses it. Knowing that our actions can encourage a whole group of drivers to reconsider their behavior and think twice before making unsafe choices is what motivates me to get out there and take action every day."

We’re proud to spotlight Sergeant Nicholas Jamrog of the Tiverton Police Department as a Holiday Hero!

"DUI is one of the few crimes where we have a real chance to prevent devastating outcomes," said Sergeant Jamrog. "So much of policing is reactive, responding after incidents occur, but DUI enforcement is something we can be fully proactive about. We can’t always stop poor decisions, but we can prevent crashes that are completely avoidable. I maintain a zero-tolerance policy when it comes to DUI enforcement. While empathy is important in policing, impaired driving is one choice that simply cannot be excused."
