BREVARD COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE HOLDS GROUNDBREAKING CEREMONY FOR NEW “K-9 JUNNY’S ANIMAL SURGERY CENTER!!”

Earlier today our agency held a groundbreaking ceremony for our latest advancement in the health and well-being of homeless pets in our community!! The “K-9 Junny Animal Surgery Center” once completed, will house the latest in surgery and medical technology for dogs and cats that are in our care at the Animal Care Center!!

Currently our veterinary staff conduct thousands and thousands of surgeries each year in a small surgery room that is less than 500 square feet. The new facility not only significantly expands our surgery area but also brings in the latest in technology including radiology, ultrasound, and lab facilities.

Named after our beloved “K-9 Junny,” the surgery center will forever tell the story of Junny Rios-Martinez who in 1991 at the age of 11 years old was abducted and murdered in our community and “K-9 Junny” who was named in honor of him and who has quickly become our agency mascot and ambassador for the safety of pets throughout our community!!

The “K-9 Junny Animal Surgery Center” was designed by Dr. Sarah Boyd our Director of Veterinary Medicine, Animal Services Director Joe Hellebrand, our Veterinary team, Erik Costin of W&J Construction, and Travis Kerr of J. Travis Kerr Architecture. In addition, this new facility would not be possible without the funding assistance of our Brevard County Commission and Commissioner John Tobia who championed the funding effort, our Sheriff’s Pet Posse, and a gift from a gracious donor who at her passing wanted to help homeless pets in our community!!

While we are just now entering the early stages of the project’s construction, I am truly excited for our veterinary staff and the thousands of homeless pets who will forever be impacted by this new facility and resource!!

And yes, the construction team made certain that Junny had his own shovel for the event so that my wife Susan Ann could help him be a part of the groundbreaking effort!!

CAPTION THIS FOLKS…

WHAT DO YOU THINK IS GOING THROUGH JUNNY’S MIND AT THE EXACT MOMENT HE GOT CAUGHT?

And this is exactly why we had to invent the “Junny Truck Cam,” because he can’t help but follow his nose, all the way to trouble!!

SERIOUSLY…WHO COULD PASS UP GIVING A FUREVER HOME TO A COOL LOOKING CAT NAMED “OREO?”

If you ever wanted a cool looking cat, this is your chance to get one as “Oreo” is now available at our Animal Care Center!!

The face alone is enough to make you race down there to get him, but being able to tell your friends you have a cat named “Oreo” makes it even better!!

MY MAIN MAN “FRANKLIN” AND A WHOLE BUNCH MORE FIND FUREVER HOMES THIS WEEK THANKS TO AN AMAZING COMMUNITY AND TEAM!!

So this past week at the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Animal Care Center was an amazing time for our animals and staff as we hosted “Junny’s Summer Adoption Event” and also posted a video on Facebook to help find a forever home for Franklin, who had been at our Animal Care Center for quite sometime.

This past Saturday was “Junny’s Summer Adoption Event” where thanks to an incredible response from literally hundreds of our citizens who visited the Animal Care Center, Mindy from Lite Rock 99.3, and the hard work of our team, we adopted out 19 dogs and 19 cats to furever homes with loving families!! Thanks to Jack’s Wrecker Service and the Sheriff’s Pet Posse, each family received a free kennel, leash, collar, food and water bowls, and a month’s supply of food for their new pet. And of course, thanks to Boniface Hiers Automotive, Glover, Orndorf, and Flanagan Financial Wealth Management, and Jack’s Wrecker Service, all adoptions are free at our Animal Care Center.

While “Junny’s Summer Adoption Event” had a tremendous impact on helping to clear the Animal Care Center, my personal favorite adoption happened earlier today when “Franklin,” found his furever home and family!! Franklin, a 3 year old mix had been at our Animal Care Center for almost 6 weeks and had even been featured on “Junny’s Tender Site,” but with no luck of finding him a great home.

So last night we did a Video Post asking our citizens to please come adopt Franklin and boy oh boy did we get a great response from our citizens!! The post was viewed by over 40,000 followers and we had literally hundreds of comments and inquiries about him. In the middle of all of i,t was Mark and his family who contacted us and said “he showed the video to his son who wants Franklin and they plan to be at the Animal Care Center on Wednesday to adopt him!!”

Well as you can see, Mark and his family not only came to the Animal Care Center, but they also fell in love with Franklin and took him to his furever home where he will have 2 acres of fenced land to run around on and a family to shower him with love just as he deserves!!

Man what a great week, what a great team, what great volunteers, and what a great and compassionate community that makes Brevard County the greatest place on earth to call home!!

WOULDN’T IT BE AWESOME TO HAVE A “FRANKLIN” WITH YOU WHEN YOU CELEBRATE INDEPENDENCE DAY ON MONDAY?

I’m not saying he is related to Benjamin Franklin, but he does love freedom and is all packed and ready to go to his furever home!!
