Food Recalls
Please review the following message from Alan Talarsky, Environmental Scientist 1, Public Health and Food Protection Program, NJDOH regarding the following Class 1 Recalls issued by the U.S. Department of Agriculture:
1. Richwell Group, Inc., doing business as Maxfield Seafood, a City of Industry, Calif. firm and the importer of record, is recalling approximately 160,020 pounds of Siluriformes fish products that were not presented for import re-inspection into the United States, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced. Additionally, the products were produced at a Vietnamese establishment that was not eligible to export Siluriformes fish to the United States.
The frozen Siluriformes items, specifically Yellow Walking Fish and Mystus Fish, were imported from Vietnam to the United States on various dates from March 2018 through January 2019. The products have a shelf life of two years. The following products are subject to recall:
Varying weights of packages containing 2 pieces of "FARM RAISED INDIVIDUALLY QUICK FROZEN" "FROZEN HEADLESS YELLOW WALKING FISH Clarias macrocephalics". Varying weights of packages containing 3 pieces of "FARM RAISED INDIVIDUALLY QUICK FROZEN" "FROZEN HEADLESS YELLOW WALKING FISH Clarias macrocephalics". Varying weights of packages containing 2 pieces of "FARM RAISED INDIVIDUALLY QUICK FROZEN" "FROZEN YELLOW WALKING FISH Clarias macrocephalics". Varying weights of packages containing 3 pieces of "FARM RAISED INDIVIDUALLY QUICK FROZEN" "FROZEN YELLOW WALKING FISH Clarias macrocephalics". 14-oz. packages of "WILD CAUGHT INDIVIDUALLY VACUUM PACK" "FROZEN HEADLESS CLEANED MYSTUS FISH".
These items were shipped to retail locations nationwide.
The problem was discovered on May 22, 2019, during routine FSIS surveillance activities of imported products.
There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about a reaction should contact a healthcare provider.
FSIS is concerned that some product may be in consumers' freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify recalling firms notify their customers of the recall and that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers. When available, the retail distribution list(s) will be posted on the FSIS website at www.fsis.usda.gov/recalls.

2. J Deluca Fish Company Inc., doing business as Nautilus Seafood, a Wilmington, Calif. firm and the importer of record, is recalling approximately 69,590 pounds of Siluriformes fish products that were not presented for import re-inspection into the United States, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced. Additionally, the products were produced at a Vietnamese establishment that was not eligible to export Siluriformes fish to the United States.
The frozen Siluriformes items, specifically Yellow Walking Fish, were imported from Vietnam to the United States on various dates from August 2018 to January 2019. The following products are subject to recall:
Varying weights of packages containing 2 pieces of "HEADLESS-CLEANED YELLOW WALKING FISH" "Clarias Macrocepphalus" "CA TRE VANG LAM SACH - CAT DAU" "FARM RAISED".Varying weights of packages containing 2 pieces of "WHOLE YELLOW WALKING FISH" "Clarias Macrocepphalus" "CA TRE VANG NGUYEN CON" "FARM RAISED".
These items were shipped to distributors and retail locations nationwide.

3. Johnsonville, LLC., a Sheboygan Falls, Wis. establishment, is recalling approximately 95,393 pounds of its ready-to-eat jalapeño cheddar smoked sausage products that may be contaminated with extraneous material, specifically hard green plastic, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced.
The jalapeño cheddar smoked sausage items were produced and packaged on March 12 and 13, 2019. The following products are subject to recall:
14-oz. film, vacuum packages containing "Johnsonville JALAPEÑO CHEDDAR Smoked Sausage" with a "Best By 06/09/2019" date on the back of the package.
The products subject to recall bear establishment number "EST. 34224" inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped nationwide and internationally.
The problem was discovered when the company notified FSIS that they received a consumer complaint regarding green hard plastic in the product.
There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.
FSIS is concerned that some product may be in consumers' refrigerators or freezers. Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.

4. Perdue Foods LLC., a Bridgewater, Va. establishment, is recalling approximately 31,703 pounds of ready-to-eat chicken products that may be contaminated with extraneous materials, specifically pieces of bone material, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced.
The fully cooked chicken products were produced on March 21, 2019. The following products are subject to recall:
11.2 oz. plastic trays containing "PERDUE Simply Smart ORGANICS BREADED CHICKEN BREAST TENDERS - GLUTEN FREE" with a "USE BY MAY 20 2019" and UPC bar code of 072745-001437 on the label. 12 oz. plastic trays containing "PERDUE Simply Smart ORGANICS BREADED CHICKEN BREAST NUGGETS - WHOLE GRAIN" with a "USE BY MAY 20 2019" and UPC bar code of 072745-001642 on the label. 12 oz. plastic trays containing "PERDUE Simply Smart ORGANICS BREADED CHICKEN BREAST STRIPS - WHOLE GRAIN" with a "USE BY MAY 20 2019" and UPC bar code of 072745-002656 on the label. 10-lb. bulk boxes of "Chef Quik Breaded Chicken Tenders Boneless Tender Shaped Chicken Breast Patties with Rib Meat" with Case Code 22143 on the label. 10-lb. bulk boxes of "Chef Quik Chicken Breast Strips Strip Shaped Breaded Chicken Breast Patties with Rib Meat" with Case Code 77265 on the label.
The products subject to recall bear establishment number "EST. P-369" inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to retail locations nationwide.
The problem was discovered after FSIS and the company received consumer complaints.
There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.
