The Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Chapter 109 generally files Fully Developed Claims (FDC) and not BDD claims. If you are in the 90-180 day window for discharge, visit your local military installation's Transition Assistance Program (TAP) office, or work with a VA liaison on base. Not all installations have a VA liaison. If no VA liaison on base or you have missed your BDD application window, you may try to apply online but first, recommend talking to a DAV Chapter Service Officer, or other Veterans Service Officer (state/county), for advice and assistance.
Why BDD instead of FDC? One, you get the rating sooner and if rated, receive VA compensation sooner. Two, it has implications for spousal benefits as to when you are rated, what you are rated, and when you might pass.
Note, if you are getting separation pay, the VA requires that money to be paid back from any VA compensation pay. So think about your disabilities and whether it makes sense to receive separation pay. This is your call but do some research.
Note, if you are retiring at or after 20 years from the military, and the VA rates you less than 50%, that VA compensation will be offset from your retirement pay. Don't let this scare you...same amount of retirement, just some tax free. If you are rated 50% or more by the VA, you can collect both retirement pay and VA compensation pay simultaneously (no offset).
