June is here with new programs for all! June 8th is the start of Summer Reading, so be sure to stop on by and register. Some programs we will be having are: Storytimes for ages 3-6 and 0-2, kids clubs for ages 7-12, game night, crafts, and more!

All programs will be held at the Masonic Lodge (right next to the library).

Is it Hot in Here? Menopause Explained..

Join us for an informative talk with Dr. Ferreira, MD (Obstetrician-Gynecologist) on menopause, including symptoms, stages, and ways to manage changes. This free program will be on June 8th from 6-7pm. You do not need a library card to come!

We have some tomato starter plants available at the library today for FREE! 🍅 Our Executive Director Jess grew a few more than she had room for and is giving away the extras. Multiple varieties available: “Mortgage Lifter” red slicing, Pink Bumblebee, Ground Cherry, Red Brandywine, and Indigo Apple!

Thank you to those who attended our Community Conversation on Accessibility as part of our ALA Libraries Transforming Communities grant! Ideas from that conversation were written on boards and the public was asked to vote for which ideas they felt strongly about. The results are as follows:

1. Creating a dedicated accessible parking spot at the library.
2. Extending the awning on the back ramp to provide weather protection.
3. Making the bathroom doorways & hallway ADA accessible.
4. Advocating for more accessible parking in the City and critical local orgs/businesses/etc.
5. Making the library stacks ADA accessible.
6. Installing an ADA back door.

We will tackle as many items as possible with our $10,000 grant and post about progress here regularly! See other accessibility concerns in the library or community in general? Let us know!

We're excited to announce today that we're continuing our extra special Story Train events with Oil Creek and Titusville Railroad this summer!

For $5 a person, you can ride with Miss Becky on the train and enjoy themed stories geared for children ages 3-8 as you ride through the valley that changed the world.

We are currently taking sign-ups for our first train ride on Saturday, June 20th. Please stop by the library to reserve your seats or call us at 814-827-2913 if you have any questions.

Important Announcement: Benson Memorial Library will undergo major roof construction this summer. The Summer Reading Program will operate from the Masonic Lodge (next door to the library) starting Monday, June 8. More details on library operations are forthcoming as the project enters the construction phase. Stayed tuned!
