🚨FEMA Mobile Registration Intake Center (MRIC) will be open for Tipton County residents effected by the flood.

Hours of Operations : Friday September 4th 9am-7pm and Saturday September 5th 9am-4pm

Location: Tipton County Fairgrounds, 1200 S Main St. Tipton, IN 46072

Applicants should bring their Social Security number, insurance details, information about damages, financial documents, contact information and direct deposit details.

FEMA Mobile Registration Intake Center (MRIC) will be open for Tipton County residents. Representatives at this center will provide in-person assistance, answer questions and help homeowners and renters apply for FEMA's Individual Assistance Program for residents effected by the flood.

🦟 Mosquito Activity in Tipton County

We have received a significant number of complaints and reports from residents regarding increased mosquito activity throughout Tipton County, particularly following the recent flooding and heavy rainfall.

We understand that mosquitoes can make it difficult to enjoy your yard, parks, and outdoor activities—and they can also carry diseases such as West Nile virus and other mosquito-borne illnesses.

What about community-wide spraying?

Community-wide mosquito spraying was conducted in the past, but the practice was discontinued following significant concerns and complaints from community members regarding the use of chemicals.

Mosquito control is not as simple as spraying an entire community. Effective mosquito management can include eliminating breeding sites, larval control, & surveillance

The most effective thing we can all do is work together to eliminate mosquito breeding areas. Mosquitoes can lay eggs in surprisingly small amounts of standing water.

What YOU can do around your home:

- Dump standing water – Check buckets, toys, flowerpots, birdbaths, tires, children's pools, and other containers.

- Drain water after rainfall – Pay particular attention to areas where water collected following the recent flooding.

- Remove items that collect water – Turn over or properly dispose of anything that can hold rainwater - flowerpots, birdbaths, tires, children's pools & other containers.

- Clean gutters and downspouts – Make sure water can drain properly.

- Change birdbath water regularly – Don't allow water to sit for extended periods.

- Cover water storage containers – Rain barrels and other water-holding containers should be tightly covered or screened.

- Check less obvious areas – Tarps, toys, pool covers, clogged drains, and even small containers can become mosquito breeding sites.

Don't forget to protect yourself!

Use an EPA-registered insect repellent, wear long sleeves and pants when possible, and make sure window and door screens are in good repair.

Mosquito control is a community effort. One property with standing water can contribute to mosquito activity throughout a neighborhood.

Planning to Sell Food at an Event in Tipton County? Know Your Requirements!

Summer and fall events are a great opportunity for local food vendors, but before you start serving food to the public, make sure you have the proper registration or permit in place.

Temporary Food Establishments

If you're planning to prepare or serve food at a temporary event, you may need a Temporary Food Establishment Permit from the Tipton County Health Department. Indiana's current food code, 410 IAC 7-26, applies to temporary food operations, and the Tipton County Health Department provides a Temporary Food Establishment Application.

Home-Based Vendors

Indiana also allows certain Home-Based Vendors (HBVs) to sell qualifying foods directly to consumers. However, not every food product qualifies, and home-based vending has specific requirements for the types of food that may be prepared and sold.

Before you begin selling, make sure you understand which requirements apply to your business.

After last week’s flooding, you may notice more mosquitoes around your home and neighborhood. Flooding and heavy rainfall can create new areas of standing water where mosquitoes lay their eggs. Mosquito populations can increase in the weeks following a flood.

Help reduce mosquito breeding areas around your home:

- Dump it: Empty water from buckets, flowerpots, toys, tires, and other containers.
- Drain it: Check areas where water may be collecting after the flood.
- Remove it: Get rid of items that can hold standing water.
- Cover it: Keep water-holding containers tightly covered.
- Protect yourself: Use an EPA-registered insect repellent and wear long sleeves and pants when spending time outdoors.

Remember: Mosquitoes need standing water to complete their life cycle. Even small amounts of water can become a breeding site.

As our community continues to recover from the flooding, taking a few minutes to Tip, Toss, and Turn Over water-holding items can help reduce mosquitoes and protect our families.
