The Cedar County Veterans Affairs Commission had a great time at the Durant Fireman's parade August 15, 2026! It was a great crowd and fun seeing some familiar faces there. Our very own Michael Stigers, who is on the Commission, represented the Durant Fire Department in the parade. He retired from the Iowa National Guard and continues to serve his community! Thank you Durant for the fun!

On National Korean War Veterans Armistice Day, we honor the men and women who answered the call in the "Forgotten War" and remember the more than 36,000 Americans who gave their lives and the more than 100,000 wounded in defense of freedom.

Their courage will never be forgotten.

Last week, President Andrew Tangen was invited to an HVAC round table discussion on discharge upgrades, spotlighting the gap between when service members served and the outcomes they received for so-called "bad paper" discharges.
From WWII through Vietnam, about 2.7% of service members received these discharges. Post 9/11, that number jumped to 6.7%.
