The Tipp City Library began in 1923 as a collection of 1,500 books on the second floor of the old City Building, staffed only by volunteers. It was originally funded by the Women’s Civic Club, and then by local taxes in 1926, becoming a City library. In

1950, the land at the library’s current location was donated by Mr. and Mrs. John Smith, after which neighboring properties were purchased. The library was dedicated at its present location in 1962. A children’s room was added in 1982, and the building went through another renovation creating the adult fiction and teen areas in 1991 with the teen area completed in 1996. Currently, the library collection consists of over 59,500 books, 4,500 movies, and 2,500 books on CD, plus 66 periodical titles. The Tipp City Public Library has been truly lucky in their caring and community-minded staff. Past and present Librarians/Directors include: Ann Shaffer, Lulu Cottingham, Catherine Kessler, Florence Cook, Caroline Weaver, Nancy Stottman McAlpin, Pat Liening, Mark Mabelitini, Anthony Orsini, and, since 2016, Lisa Santucci.

The Tipp City Public Library is open today till 6pm as we recognize Juneteenth, officially known as Juneteenth National Independence Day.

Observed annually on June 19, Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans and marks the day in 1865 when Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to enforce the freedom of those who remained enslaved more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued.
Juneteenth honors an important chapter in our nation's history and serves as a time for reflection, education, and celebration of freedom.

Creativity is blooming in the Maker Space at the Children’s Area with our Loose Parts Challenge. Young creators are using imagination, problem-solving, and hands-on play to design unique creations from everyday materials.

This display also features inspiring work by Noah Gray (7 years old), whose creativity helps showcase just how meaningful open-ended art and exploration can be. Photo submitted by Kathy Gray.

As the library approaches its 103rd birthday, we decided it was time to give our historic sign a well-deserved refresh. Years of sun, rain, snow, and wind had taken their toll, causing much of the gold leaf to fade away.

Our sincere thanks to Vantage Signs for creating an exact replica that preserves the character and tradition of the original while ensuring it will welcome visitors for years to come.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for Take Flight at the Library with WACO! ✈️

Future pilots and aviation enthusiasts had an unforgettable afternoon exploring the world of flight. Participants learned about airplane parts, aviation history, and what it takes to prepare an aircraft for takeoff. The highlight of the day was getting to sit inside a real airplane and experience aviation up close!

Special thanks to Jennifer and Jason Thomas for sharing their expertise and inspiring curiosity in our young learners. We are also grateful to Zion Lutheran Church Tipp City for providing space for this unique hands-on experience.

Please join us for a celebration of the Library's 103rd birthday! We've pulled out the scrapbooks and located some historical gems to share with you.

Stop by for a popsicle, travel back in time and gander at the scrapbooks, and find out how you can be a Friend of the Library.

👀 We are looking at you 80s and 90s babies. Your artwork, photos, and library programs will be on display.
