On this rainy Saturday, we have good news:

Your summer reading forms are READY! We start June 1st...but if you don't get in today to pick them up, just grab it whenever you can next week. You'll find them on the circulation desk in the youth section of the library (that's the new section 🙃)

There are two forms to pick up for June. I've included pictures with this post. The first form of your June challenge... You have all of June to complete the form so take your time and enjoy it!

Second form is for the whole program... We just want you to read every day. We're not asking got a specific amount of time this year. If you read, you can check of the day.

Watch Facebook and the library for activities as we plan and post them. We have something really great planned to start next week so stay tuned!

There is NO STORY TIME this week, Thursday May 28th. We take the week of Memorial Day off to give us time to finishing preparing for the summer reading schedule!

Hey story-timers from yesterday (May 7th)...

You should probably put your little flower pots on plate or in a small bowl of some sort when you water it! I thought doubling up those pots would be enough BUT I did notice the water seeps through both 😂.

Once you get the flower to bloom, get that bad boy into the ground or a permanent pot please! And remember, you can plant the pot that we didn't decorate (unless it completely disintegrates by that time...I don't know what is going to happen at this point! 🫣)

By the time I retire, I should have all these little things figured out!

Fun at story time!

"Rabbit Ears" is a cute story about Hopscotch...a young bunny who doesn't really like having his ears washed. But with some help from his big cousin, Bobtail, and his favorite stuffie, Rabbity, he learns how to actually LOVE ear washing!

Our crafted rabbits won't ever need their ears washed and they certainly ended up very cute!

Happy Wednesday! It's going to be another beautiful spring day in NW North Dakota...enjoy every moment of it because I just saw 3-6 inches of SNOW predicted for Thursday and Friday.

Snow in April is not very nice, BUT don't fret because we have your back! Swing by the library today and check out our new STEAM station activities; come on in and browse our collection of books - I guarantee we have something for everyone, whether it's new fiction you want, a fail safe classic, or something non-fiction to appease you; AND the Williston Community Library Bookmobile will be here this morning between 10:35am and 11:30am to provide even more choices of reading enjoyment! The skating rink here at the Tioga Community Center is open with free skates for you to use and TODAY will be a great day to spend a little time outdoors.

Tomorrow morning at 10:30am is our PK story time...always so much fun so consider coming in with your littles to hear a story (sometimes two!) and do a small craft. Afterwards, you can always hang around to play across the hall in the Tioga Community Center play area.

Do you know what's coming to the library next? SUMMER READING 2026! This year is going to be so much fun as we UNEARTH A STORY...lots of fun things planned for everyone so stay tuned as we finalize our plans. Summer will be here before you know it...as soon as we get through the final grip of winter!

It's here and it's ready!

Your Tioga Community Library STEAM STATION!

The beginning of 2026 was spent building these tables (your library director surprised even herself by putting them together on her own!), finding the perfect stools, researching games and activities for all age groups, checking with other libraries to see how they make it happen, and today I finally got the wall decor up and feel confident we are ready to go.

This area is for all ages. There are activities that are friendly for roughly ages 3 and up right now...parents and caregivers, you know best whether your child can handle these things. For the ones younger that 6, we ask that an adult stay at the table with them please.

I've attached a picture of the general rules and pictures of the current available activities to use. We are requiring each participant to sign in at the desk in the youth area. We are only allowing 4 users max at the tables right now, and a 40 minute time limit if others are waiting. Please ensure your child has cleaned up everything they use, and all these items must stay in the library....at the tables...at all times.

We're excited to see our young thinkers delve into the areas of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics! We will keep adding things to this area as we find more that will work in our library.

Yesterday's story time was in honor of "Save the elephant day". We read two stories... Mama elephant and her child, Little One, needed to be apart while Mama went in a short trip. A beautiful story about how even when we're apart from those we love, there are ways to remember and feel the closeness and love that we share. Then we read about Harry the elephant and his struggle to fall asleep one night... but his friend Lulu and Ted reminded him that they were there to just be by his side through his struggles.

We created our own elephants during the craft time... complete with googly eyes. There is not one child I've met at story time that doesn't love when I pull out the colored googly eyes! Although my elephant got green eyes to match my own, many of the other elephants ended up with two different colored eyes 😂 I love and appreciate the creativity I see each week in the littles!

Here's a pretty great info-graphic sent to me by the North Dakota State Library...

Every year, library directors fill out a rather LENGTHY form of numbers that we file with the state library. It encompasses everything from circulation numbers, computer usage, connections to our WiFi, visits to the library, library cards issued, programs we hold and how many people attend those activities...all the way to budget numbers. Every year I feel a little overwhelmed getting that form completed! And yet, every year I see the growth that has taken place in our library. The overwhelm quickly turns to a smile of pride in our library. We work hard to choose materials to put in the library and plan our activities. We work hard to keep things organized and easy to find. I chuckle a little when I think about how many thousands of pieces of crafts we cut out each year for story time crafts and those Christmas Craft Bags...for example, last week's story time craft had 8 individual pieces for each craft and we cut out enough for 25 crafts that week...that's 200 cow pieces for just one Thursday morning! But when this report is done each year, I remember just how much the effort is SO WORTH IT! We so appreciate all of you coming and using the library so regularly. I can't count the number of times I've been somewhere else in town and heard "MOM! It's Miss Sandy from the library!" I've had parents tell me their kiddos refer to library books as "Miss Sandy's books"...several littles have even assumed the library is where I live! (I don't...I promise!)

My staff and I are so proud of our library...and we have you to thank for making our hard work pay off BIG. 11,013 visits to the library last year...ELEVEN THOUSAND! We're excited to see what 2026 and all the future years will bring!
