Tiffin Middle School has received a $2,050 grant from the Tiffin Community Foundation’s Youth Advisory Council to replenish its Hygiene Closet.
The closet gives students in grades 6-8 private access to necessities such as deodorant, shampoo, soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, feminine hygiene products and other personal-care items.
Students can submit a confidential online form without having to ask for help face-to-face. They can pick up their items after school or have staff discreetly place them in their locker.
“If a student is worried about their personal hygiene or appearance, that becomes another barrier they carry into the classroom.” TMS counselor Melissa Mellott said. “The Hygiene Closet allows us to say, ‘We’ve got you,’ in a way that is private, supportive and free from shame.”
The grant was made possible through the generosity of the late Sherman and Virginia White, who established a trust fund to support charitable work in the Tiffin community.
Thank you to the Tiffin Community Foundation, its Youth Advisory Council and the Sherman and Virginia White trust for helping our students feel confident, supported and ready to learn.
