City of Tiffin Government

City of Tiffin Government Founded in 1822, the City of Tiffin is proud to be the Education Community in honor of its two private universities and excellent public and private schools.

Tiffin has a diverse economy, a thriving downtown and nearly 18,000 residents who call it home. Developed along the Sandusky River, which flows to Lake Erie, Tiffin is about 55 miles southeast of Toledo and about two hours from Cleveland, Columbus and Detroit, Michigan. Tiffin is the county seat of Seneca County, Ohio. The population was 17,678 in the 2020 census. Referred to as the Education Comm

unity, Tiffin is the home to Heidelberg University and Tiffin University, as well as two k-12 school districts and technical and vocational schools. The two private universities provide many educational, cultural, entertainment and dining experiences for City residents as well as support for community projects from college students and staff. At one time, the city was noted as a glass and porcelain manufacturing center and had two breweries that utilized the Sandusky River, prior to prohibition. Today, Tiffin has a diverse economy, including multiple domestic and international manufactures that use Tiffin as their headquarters; an industry recognized healthcare provider in Mercy Health – Tiffin Hospital; several big box and franchised retailers and dining establishments and many small, independent restaurants, stores and services, including many located in the Historic Downtown. As well as shopping and entertainment, Tiffin offers multiple museums, such as American Civil War Museum of Ohio, Grammes-Brown House & Tiffin Historic Trust, The Enchanted Moment Doll Museum & Gift Shoppe, Seneca County Museum and Tiffin Glass Museum & Gift Shoppe; entertainment venues, including Diane Kidd Gallery at Tiffin University, The Poignon Project, The Ritz Theatre and Tiffin Art Guild & Gallery; and outdoor attractions, including National Corner splash pad and Frost-Kalnow Amphitheater at the East Green, the Tiffin Seneca Farmers Market and the Tiffin Police and Fire All Patriots Memorial, featuring a beam from the World Trade Center attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.
