We would like to thank the McDonald County Local Emergency Response Committee (LEPC) and the McDonald County Emergency Management Agency for providing funding and coordination to send Tiff City Fire - Captain John Moore and Tiff City Fire - Firefighter/Board Member Mike Roark to the University of Missouri Winter Fire School.

Special thanks to Tiff City Fire Chief Nathaniel Walter for these opportunities and for facilitating the approval process/departmental coordination.

As part of Tiff City Fire Department’s commitment and strategy to continual and ongoing training, John Moore and Mike Roark completed the following MU Fire and Rescue Training Institute Courses:

- Farm Smart HazMat: Rural Response Considerations for HazMat Incidents based on common Farm, Co-Op and Rural Hazardous Materials scenarios.

- Art of Reading Smoke: Interpreting smoke characteristics to understand a fire's current state and predict its potential evolution. This is critical to define initial and dynamic attack decisions, as well as predicting dangerous conditions such as potential flashovers, backdrafts and collapse risks.

- Fire Apparatus Pump Theory & Operations: Understanding Fire Chemistry and attack, calculating required water pressures based on fire ground layout and elevations. Calculating friction loss to dynamically adjust water volume and pressures based on fire ground layout and hose lengths to ensure that each hose lay receives the critically required water volume and hose pressure. Also pump maintenance and best practices to protect against pump damage. Review of various pump/apparatus types and the proper operations of each.
