May 8th, 2026.

At approximately 10:30 AM, Three Rivers, Bondsville, and Palmer firefighters as well as the Palmer Police Department, were dispatched to a reported kitchen fire in the Three Rivers response district. An occupant at the reported address was unable to evacuate the home. Because of this, mutual aid was requested from surrounding departments bringing the incident briefly to a second alarm. Fortunately due to quick thinking of an occupant at the residence, the origin of the fire was removed from the home and placed outside of the building. Firefighters arrived on scene shortly after and reported the fire had been fully extinguished. Mutual aid companies were then recalled and the incident was mitigated by the originally dispatched companies. The fire was found to be caused by a small kitchen appliance being placed on a hot stove top. No injuries were reported and minor damage occurred to the area around the origin of the fire. All companies cleared the scene at approximately 11:00 AM.

As the new year continues, so does training.

Most recently, firefighter’s from Three Rivers, Bondsville, and Palmer, all participated in training consisting of familiarizing the departments with the apparatus and tools all of them have to offer. The departments regularly training together helps to increase efficiency when larger scale incidents occur in the town.

Earlier this winter, firefighters from TRFD trained on standpipe operations. The larger buildings in and around Three Rivers present with issues getting water to where it may be needed in the event of a fire. Using these appliances allows for quicker mitigation of these incidents when they do occur.

Pre planning for an incident is one of the ways fire departments prepare for emergency calls. Three Rivers firefighter’s conducted this planning at Pathfinder High School. Personell simulated fire scenarios in different parts of the building as well as coordination of responding resources to a large scale incident.

SIGNIFICANT WINTER WEATHER EVENT.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch starting Sunday 1/25 extending into Monday 1/26 predicting a large amount of accumulating snow during that period.

Travel will prove to be extremely difficult during the storm.

With the large amount of snowfall comes other risks. Exhaust vents for household appliances, ( dryers, furnaces, etc.) can become blocked by snowfall, leading to hazardous conditions inside your home. Fire hydrants can also become obstructed by the snow. Make sure to keep them cleared so in the event of emergency, responders will have access to them. Be mindful of other appliances like space heaters that require distance from objects like curtains, clothing, etc. and propane appliances or generators that can produce carbon monoxide in enclosed spaces.
