Update:
Last nights storm intensified around 12:45am and became a Tornado Warned storm with rotation observed in the cloud formations according to the weather service. Your Three Oaks Fire and Three Oaks EMS services responded to their stations to prepare for the possibility of a tornado. The storm passed quickly. The only observation in our area was heavy rain. All personal were able to clear their stations after the storm settled which only took about 30 minutes. We did not receive any requests for service during that time.

We have once again been place under a Tornado Watch. The National Weather Service has place the Tornado watch until 3am. Please stay safe as the storms enter our area tonight.

March brought a little relief with only 26 calls for service bringing our annual total to 96 for 2026. Many crew members were able to fit breaks, vacations and specal personal projects in before the summer rush begins. Please remember we are always looking for new team members who have a little time to give back to their community.

**SEVERE WEATHER POSSIBLE**
Several models show we are in an elevated risk of severe weather this afternoon and evening. We remind everyone to have a weather radio and a few supplies ready in the event of an emergency. Water and non perishable food located near an area you plan to retreat to in the event of a tornado. A local radio station app unlocked on your phone for weather event updates. And keep your devices charged today.
When traveling watch for downed limbs, trees, and utility lines. Do not travel through standing water and know an alternate route incase an obstacle should arise.
As we learned last week. Warnings may come, they may be late, or not at all. Seek shelter immediately if conditions change rapidly. There is no social media video post worth risking safety and there will be plenty of time to post after an event should one arise.

Today we say goodbye to one of our amazing First Responders and a Community Guardian,

Robert "Bob" Ekema Obituary
Robert Dean Ekema, 70, known as Bob to his friends and family, passed away on December 31, 2025, in Stevensville, Michigan. Bob was born on August 28, 1955, in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Bob was the beloved son of the late Bernard Ekema and is survived by his mother Clarissa (Razenberg) Ekema, his brother Leslie Ekema, his sister Kathy (Randal) First, and his brother Dale (Juliana) Ekema, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceding him in death, in addition to his father, was his sister-in-law, Kristy Ekema.

A proud graduate of River Valley High School in 1974, Bob's work ethic was evident from an early age. He dedicated many years of his life to the transportation industry, working as a truck driver. His commitment to his work was matched only by his dedication to his community.

Bob was a member of the Three Oaks Township Fire Department for over 20 years, achieving the rank of Lieutenant. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 204 of Three Oaks, Michigan.

Bob's talents extended to the culinary arts, where he was known for smoking meat to perfection. Friends and family alike looked forward to his delicious creations.

The family would like to thank the staff at Corewell Health Lakeland St. Joseph and the Hanson Hospice Center, as well as a special thank you to Bob's closest friends, who have given him the support he needed over the past few years.

In keeping with Bob's wishes, cremation will take place. A Celebration of Life and burial for Bob will be held on January 17, 2026, at the Three Oaks American Legion, Linden St W, Three Oaks, MI 49128. Service starts at 12:00 pm with food and fellowship following immediately after. There will be an interment at Forest Lawn Cemetery after the luncheon.

Memorials may be made to the Three Oaks American Legion Post 204.
