🚁From dip to drop💧

Lake Bard served as a critical emergency helicopter dip site during the Sandy Fire, supporting aerial firefighting operations protecting our region from above.

As the Sandy Fire continues, we continue to witness an incredible regional response from firefighting agencies across Southern California. Our office has re-opened to the public. The amount of mutual aid, coordination, and nonstop teamwork happening both on the ground and in the air has been extraordinary.

We are also pleased to share that our office has re-opened to the public while emergency response efforts remain ongoing.

Helicopters continued picking up water from Lake Bard throughout the night and into today, supporting active firefighting operations. More than 100 “dips” into the lake over the course of the past two days has meant thousands of gallons of water provided for firefighting.

Having a nearby reservoir like Lake Bard helps save critical response time for aerial firefighting efforts compared to longer turnaround trips to the ocean or other water sources, allowing aircraft to get water back on the fire faster when every second matters.

We are incredibly grateful to all our first responders continuing to protect our communities.

Due to ongoing Sandy Fire activity, the Calleguas Municipal Water District office is currently closed to the public.

Please know our team remains actively engaged in supporting emergency response efforts behind the scenes. Lake Bard continues to serve as an emergency helicopter dip site, providing critical water access for firefighting operations protecting our region.

We remain closely monitoring conditions and coordinating with our emergency response partners. The safety of our community, first responders, and employees remains our top priority.

Today, Calleguas Board President Raul Avila chaired the Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA) Local Government Committee meeting, which featured an engaging presentation from Dana Moore of the California Utilities Emergency Association (CUEA) on best practices for emergency response planning and coordination.

At Calleguas, emergency preparedness remains a top priority. Through strong partnerships with law enforcement, fire officials, and regional stakeholders throughout Ventura County, we continue working together to strengthen resilience, enhance coordination, and ensure we are prepared to respond effectively when emergencies arise.
