The Climate & Environmental Action Plan stakeholder meeting will be broadcast live this evening on Facebook. The group will be discussing land use and transportation strategies for reducing greenhouse gas emissions (GHG).

Nearly 100 community members participated in the City’s first Climate and Environmental Action Plan (CEAP) stakeholder meeting last month. The Zoom meeting was broadcast live on Facebook. Check out our latest blog for a summary of that meeting (link in bio) and join us for the next Facebook Live CEAP meeting on Wednesday, February 24th at 6:00pm, as we discuss land use and transportation strategies. We recently assisted Banyan Elementary with a school waste audit, sorting through one-days worth of their campus trash/recyclables. Like many of the waste audits we've conducted in the past, one of the most eye opening findings is the amount of perfectly good unopened/uneaten food that is thrown in the trash. The wasted food in this photo is just from one day at one school. Sadly, this is happening at all school campuses. There are 180 schools days in a year and 27 campuses in our district. This is an extraordinary amount of wasted food that could be going to people in our community who are food insecure. We can do better. Talk to your children about waste and what they do not like to eat in their lunch and make changes to reduce this unnecessary waste. If they don't want that apple or sandwich, have them bring it home for big brother to eat, or save it for lunch the next day, or donate it to a local food pantry... there are a number of them in the Conejo Valley. Let's make changes that will make a difference!

A few findings from our school waste audit today! 42.6 lbs of unopened food that we found in one days trash.
