As predicted, our fire weather watch has been upgraded to a Red Flag Warning for Saturday, June 20th from 4pm to 8pm for wind and low humidity. Any fire starts will spread quickly. Please be careful with anything that could cause a spark.

The Fire Danger Rating for our area (Elk Heights and East) will move to Very High tomorrow, Friday, June 19th at 12:01am. Hot, dry and windy conditions have cured out our fuels to near critical levels. Fires in the region in similar fuel types have seen rapid growth, especially with wind. You’ll see our signs changed this evening.

Another Red Flag Warning has been issued for our area for today, Wednesday, June 17th from 11am until 9pm for wind and low humidity. Winds could gust to 40mph and humidity could be as low as 15%. Yesterday, in similar conditions, fires throughout the region saw very rapid growth. Please be very careful with anything that could cause a spark.

Tonight your FD1 firefighters sharpened their pump and roll skills up at Elk Heights utilizing all 4 of our brush trucks. You can also see Tender 111 (Truck Norris) in the background with operators running it on the off-road course to get signed off for the year. Wildfire season is here and we want to be as prepared as possible.

A Red Flag Warning has been issued for our area for Today, Tuesday, June 16th, from 10am until 11pm for dry and windy conditions. Humidity could be as low as 18% and winds could gust to 45mph. These conditions will promote very fast fire spread if we get a start, so please be extra careful with anything that could cause a spark.

The State’s 911 service provider is currently experiencing technical difficulties. As a result, callers may encounter delays and/or issues with location information when contacting 911.

If you are unable to reach emergency services in Kittitas County by dialing 911, please call the Kittcom non-emergency line at (509) 925-8534 for assistance.

At this time, there is no estimated timeframe for resolution. We will provide updates as additional information becomes available.
