Our community has lost another great Leader, Friend, Firefighter, Father, Brother and all around Outstanding Guy. Please pray for his friends, family and colleagues.

It is with deep sorrow and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Battalion Chief Gary C. Campbell, following a valiant battle with a sudden illness.

Gary was truly a friend to everyone he met, and was a loved and respected long-time member of our department. He had the heart of a firefighter, dedicated to serving the community he loved, and viewed those he worked alongside as family. He was passionate about his job, striving to make sure he and those he worked with were able to perform to the highest expectations, while also demonstrating a deep compassion for the personal side of each individual and their families. The only thing he loved more than the department was his family. He was very proud of each of his children, and always worked hard to make sure they were taken care of.

“Today is a tragic day in the history of the department, and is a tremendous hit to all of us emotionally. But Gary would want us to keep moving forward, serving the community he loved so dearly. We will continue to honor his memory by carrying on his passion and dedication to helping others, striving to embody the same work ethic he showed every day in all he did.” –Chief Jay Cullinan

Chief Brooks Memorial Fund

This is a memorial to continue the legacy of Chief Brooks of making fireman to be the best fireman they can be. To serve the citizens of their communities with continuous education. To give them the knowledge and the skills of the job. To make sure everyone continues to go home.

The memorial fund thrives strictly on donations. In the first six months the fund has been established we have raised $5000. These funds are used to continue the education of firefighters and future firefighters.

Each year The Norman Brooks Memorial Fund will provide a scholarship to attend West Virginia University Junior Fire Camp. The camp is a week long residency camp which provides classroom and practical training to further participants knowledge, skills and abilities in firefighting and emergency services. This opportunity is available for any child between the ages of 14-17 years old and has an interest in public service.

On March 20, 2020 we will support the very first Chief Norman Brooks Sr. First Due Fire School in Spotsylvania County, Virginia. A core group of firefighters whom understood Chief Brooks’ love for the fire service put their minds together and poured their heart and soul into carrying on his legacy through this top notch training. This training weekend will bring firefighters from as far away as California. The training will begin on Friday with a Full day of lecture and include lunch and dinner for all participants. Saturday and Sunday will move on to Hands On Training with Lunch provided both days to participants. The lecture and hands on training will focus on rapid size-up and informed decision making to facilitate aggressive engine and truck company operations.
