Happy Labor Day from Thomas County Schools!

Today, we celebrate the hard work and dedication of the people who keep our schools, community and country moving forward. We are especially grateful for the many educators, staff members and community partners who give their time and talents to support our students every day.

We hope everyone enjoys a safe and relaxing Labor Day!

Yesterday, we shared some "reel" highlights of our 1st graders from Garrison-Pilcher’s Reading Rally, and now we’re excited to show a few still shots of our 2nd graders from the fun! ✨

This annual tradition not only sparks excitement for reading but also gives our young Yellow Jackets a special chance to connect with our high school students. 💛💙

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this event possible!

An Extra Layer of Safety for Our Students

Thanks to the generosity of the Thomas County Sheriff's Office Foundation and the Williams Foundation, many families will have added peace of mind when it comes to keeping their children safe.

The Thomas County Sheriff’s Office recently delivered Scent Preservation Kits to the Thomas County Schools Exceptional Students Department. The kits will be distributed to families of children with autism or other conditions that may increase the risk of wandering.

These kits allow families to collect and preserve a child’s unique scent ahead of time. If a child ever goes missing, the preserved scent gives responding K-9 units an uncontaminated scent to use during the search. Each kit can last up to 10 years.

We are incredibly grateful for this partnership and for the added layer of safety these kits provide for our students and their families. 💙💛

🎭 A New Chapter for Theatre at TCMS!

Thomas County Middle School is excited to announce that it has been awarded a grant that will allow the school to charter the first Junior Thespian Society troupe at TCMS! 🎉

The International Thespian Society gives students who love theatre and drama opportunities to grow both onstage and behind the scenes. Through classes and theatre productions, students can earn Thespian points that can follow them to TCCHS, where they can also have access to additional theatre opportunities and scholarships.

The grant covers the troupe’s activation fee and annual dues, allowing TCMS to officially establish the troupe without passing the cost on to students and families.

At the first Junior Thespian interest meeting this morning, TCCHS Thespian Society President Emilie Hart and Vice President Julianne Wynn shared their experiences and talked with middle school students about what being a Thespian can mean as they continue their theatre journey.

We’re excited to see this new tradition take shape at TCMS and watch it grow alongside the school’s theatre program! 🎭💙💛

A special thank you to everyone who helped make this opportunity possible for our students!

🌱 Growing Young Gardeners!

First graders in Mrs. Whitney’s class at Garrison-Pilcher Elementary got their hands dirty during Ms. Duncan’s science class! Students planted zucchini seeds in the school garden and got a chance to learn more about how plants grow. 🥒🌱

We love seeing our students learning through hands-on experiences!

🔧 Learning Beyond the Classroom!

Welding and SkillsUSA students from Thomas County Central High School had a great day at Hurst Boiler & Welding Co., Inc. Students toured the facility, learned about the company’s history and career opportunities, connected with vendors and Be Pro Be Proud, and got a firsthand look at the many careers available in manufacturing.

Students also enjoyed lunch and Kona Ice provided by Hurst Boiler. 🍧

A huge THANK YOU to Hurst Boiler for investing in our students and giving them the opportunity to explore careers and see what the manufacturing industry has to offer!
