Thomasville Fire Rescue and Thomas County Fire Rescue remind the community that a Burn Ban is in effect for the City of Thomasville and Thomas County.

Please help keep our community safe by complying with local Bans. Non-compliance within city limits will result in a citation.

During a severe drought, everyday activities can inadvertently spark a wildfire. Please follow the below outdoor safety measures and precautions to help protect our community:

➡Vehicle Usage: Never drive, idle, or park a recently driven vehicle on dry grass. Exhaust systems can reach over 1,000 degrees, while dry vegetation can ignite at 500 degrees.
➡Towing Safety: Ensure trailer chains are secure and not dragging. A single spark from metal-on-pavement contact can ignite roadside brush.
➡Equipment Maintenance: Ensure all portable gasoline-powered equipment used in wildland areas has a properly working spark arrester.
➡Lawn Care: Mow before 10 a.m. and avoid mowing in extremely dry vegetation. Regularly clear dry grass clippings that collect around the mower's engine.
➡Smoking Materials: Never discard ci******es or matches out of car windows. Douse cigarette butts with water before disposing of them in sturdy, non-tip ashtrays.
➡Charcoal Grill Coals: Do not dispose of charcoal grill coals on grass, dirt, brush, or vegetation. Wait at least 48 hours before discarding into a metal or aluminum bin.
➡Large Land Owners: please contact Georgia Forestry at (877) 652-2876 for guidance and permitting.
