After a three year absence, the Williams-Brazier Post 37 is on the path to reopen its doors to past members, new members, and local community members. The Department of Maine heard of Post 37 issues with not having enough members to hold meetings and activities at the Post, keeping the Post alive.
The Department stepped in, pulling the Post Charter and ceasing Post keys to the Hall. This effectively ceased activities at the Post.
At the end of March the Department of Maine initiated a Reactivation program to allow the Post to reopen. Several people have stepped up to aid in this Revitalization and work has begun to bring back membership meetings, monthly suppers, and other activities.
A baked bean supper was hosted at the Post a few weeks ago and it is currently planned that the suppers will begin to be served once again in June. Other suppers and BBQs will be held for the remainder of the year.
July will be a month to remember. It will begin with Post 37's participation in the Thomaston 4th of July celebration. Americn Legion members from other Posts in Maine will join Post 37 during the day, selling hot dogs and hamburgers. All proceeds will go to Post 37 to support its acivities. On July 25th there will be a BBQ to celebrate the 250th Anniversary of the birth of the United States. Activities will be planned for the celebration.
Other suppers and activities will be planned for the remainder of the remainder of the year. Some of the ideas being tossed around are the 107th anniversary of the birth of Post 37 will be planned for August, an Oktoberfest in September, a Halloween candy pickup for children at Post 37, and a Santa's Workshop on December 6 at Post 37.
Please remember that there are people working hard to keep Post 37 open. Your assistance in this endeavor will be very much appreciated.
