It’s that time of year again.

Cars and trucks are too hot for our furry friends! Please take care with them. We’ve already been responding to such calls. If the animal is in distress, we will take efforts to make the animal safe. There is also a potential for whomever put the animal at risk to face charges.

Goooooood Morning Thomaston! I hope everyone has enjoyed the last couple of days, it’s looking like the weekend weather isn’t going to be the greatest…but at least the weekend is almost here!

Unfortunately, This post is going to be a long read, so hopefully I don’t lose you half way thru! 🤣

We need to have another traffic discussion! As many of you are all well aware, traffic enforcement is far and away the number 1 complaint received from our residents, and I we as a Police Department completely understand why! We have many small neighborhoods and many ways to “bypass” route 1, which enhances our flow of traffic through our neighborhood drastically!

Over the next several weeks/months, you will see our traffic speed sign posted in different areas of town. Once we have collected data from multiple different perceived “problem areas”, we will then be able to break down the data and focus enforcement on actual areas that are the most problematic in town!

We have started on Water St, as this is a concern for many residents in town, and also a major “bypass” route for travelers from “out of town”.

In my promise to be as transparent as I possibly can…I want to share some data with all of you…this a real, cold hard data that is fresh off the press! These are real numbers, nothing is fabricated.

Posted below, you will find the actual print out of the data from Water St over the course of the last 27 days! May 1st- May 27th.

As you will see…over 24,000 vehicles passed by the speed sign!!! That is a HUGE number!

What you will also see, is that out of those 24,000 cars, the fastest speed recorded was 48mph…which we all can agree is way to fast! HOWEVER….that was ONE car out of 24,000!!

The average speed by all vehicles was 20.4 mph!! This is a 99 percent compliance rate!!!

Now I don’t know about any of you, but I feel that 99 percent of anything is pretty darn good!

Now I’m hesitant to post the numbers because I don’t want people going out and trying to “break the record”… BUT I promised to be transparent and I want everyone to know that ACTUAL speed and PERCEIVED speed by an untrained eye, are TOTALLY different!

The numbers are the numbers folks, and there’s really nothing on this data collection sheet that can be mis interpreted!

So this one is attempting to illicit a response to get you to click on their link to scam central where they will try to harvest your cash and personal info! Don’t do it!

It’s rough out there in the wild! We’ll try to get you the best information to shepherd you through!

Gooooood Morning Thomaston! It’s looking like it’s going to be a little cooler today!

Today is the day!! Our annual Tip a Cop event at Applebees to support Special Olympics! This is always a great and fun event!

Please come out tonight, and if you can, leave a little something extra to support all the special olympians! They do an amazing job!

Um, Mom?… Dad?… I’m in a bit of a pickle. I somehow managed to get out and this nice lady picked me up on Main St. and took me to that really nice police officer. That nice officer took me to the Pope Memorial Humane Society for safe keeping until you can come and get me! Please, come get me! Life behind bars is hard!

Very sorry to share this sad news. Thank you, Warden Tibbetts, rest easy.

Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife is heartbroken to share that Game Warden Pilot Joshua Tibbetts died this morning in a plane crash in Avon, ME.

Game Warden Pilot Tibbetts served the people of Maine as a Maine Game Warden for 18 years, including the last three years as a pilot for Maine Warden Service. In that role, his specialized aviation work supported search and rescue, law enforcement, fisheries and wildlife conservation, and public safety across the state.

This is an incredibly difficult loss for his family, friends, colleagues, and the entire Maine Warden Service. We ask the public to keep his loved ones, his fellow Game Wardens, and all those affected by this tragedy in their thoughts in the days ahead.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing. The Department will cooperate fully with the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.

We are grateful for the emergency personnel who responded to the scene and for the support already being shown to the Maine Warden Service family.
