In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day and the calendar week in which May 15 falls, as National Police Week. Established by a joint resolution of Congress in 1962, National Police Week pays special recognition to those law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.

Multiple reports indicate that calls are being made in our area claiming that an arrest warrant has been issued for individuals due to missing jury duty. This is a scam; do not provide or confirm any information to the caller.

During National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, we honor the heroes behind the headset, especially our own at the Pennington County Sheriff's Office. The 911 dispatchers and emergency personnel serve as the "first" first responders, and we couldn't do what we do without you.

We also give thanks to those across the state and nation for their service. Thank you all for your calm, dedication, and life-saving service every day.
