Workforce Wednesday is back for Year Four!

We are so excited to kick off another incredible year of our Workforce Wednesday partnership with the Thibodaux Chamber of Commerce, which brings local business leaders and professionals directly into our 8th grade classrooms to share first-hand information about diverse career pathways available right here in our community. These visits help our students expand their career horizons beyond their immediate families and connect what they learn in school to their future goals.

In its first three years, Workforce Wednesday has connected more than 3,000 middle schoolers with local career experiences and opportunities. As a result of this partnership’s overwhelming success, the Thibodaux Chamber of Commerce recently received the 2026 Excellence in Workforce Development Award from the Louisiana Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives (LACCE).

Thanks to the Chamber and these participating businesses for investing in the educational journey of our students and strengthening the future workforce of Lafourche Parish:

Please join us in celebrating Becky Plaisance, principal of Bayou Blue Upper Elementary, who has been named the Lafourche Parish School District Principal of the Year!

Superintendent Jarod Martin, alongside members of her family and other district leadership, surprised Ms. Plaisance this morning with the exciting news. She has devoted 31 of her 33½ years in education to serving the students and families of Lafourche Parish, and under her leadership, Bayou Blue Upper grew an impressive six points on this spring’s LEAP assessment, the highest growth among all LPSD K-8 schools!

We are so grateful for Ms. Plaisance’s passion, hard work, and belief in every child who walks through her doors. Lafourche Parish is a better place because of her leadership!

Let’s give a huge round of applause to our amazing bus drivers and monitors who achieved perfect attendance for the month of August!

The first month of school is always busy as everyone adjusts to new routes and new routines, but these dedicated team members didn't miss a beat. Rain or shine, they showed up every single day to ensure our students traveled to and from school safely.

Thank you all for your unwavering commitment, reliability, and care for our students. You keep LPSD moving forward!

The first progress reports of the school year go home today. This means we’re already halfway through the first nine weeks. This marking period ends Oct. 8, and report cards will be issued Oct. 15.

Parents and guardians, please take a few minutes to review your child’s progress report. This is a great opportunity to monitor your child’s academic growth, celebrate successes, and identify areas where additional support may be needed.

You can also view your child’s grades at any time using the OnCourse Connect mobile app or web portal.

Thank you for partnering with us as we work together to help every student succeed.
