FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

THIBODAUX POLICE DEPARTMENT PROVIDES UPDATE REGARDING ACTIVE SHOOTING INVESTIGATION

THIBODAUX, LA — On behalf of the Thibodaux Police Department, Chief Bryan Zeringue would like to make the public aware that 27-year-old Daronti Wesley, a suspect connected to an active shooting investigation being conducted by the Thibodaux Police Department, has been apprehended by the Gonzales Police Department following a barricaded subject incident that occurred earlier today in Gonzales, Louisiana.

As previously released, the investigation stems from a shooting incident that occurred on Sunday, May 24, 2026, near the intersection of East 10th Street and Narrow Street in the City of Thibodaux. During the incident, multiple individuals sustained injuries after gunfire erupted outside of two nightclubs in the area.

Daronti Wesley was wanted by the Thibodaux Police Department on the following charges in connection with the investigation:
• Attempted First Degree Murder
• Ten Counts of Aggravated Second Degree Battery
• Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon
• Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property

Total Bond Amount: $1,010,000.00.

According to the Gonzales Police Department, officers responded to Magnolia Crossing Apartments after receiving information that Wesley was at the location and wanted by multiple law enforcement agencies on outstanding felony warrants. Upon observing officers entering the apartment complex, Wesley fled on foot into an apartment and refused commands to exit, resulting in a barricaded subject incident.

Due to Wesley’s violent criminal history, the severity of the outstanding warrants, and the potential threat to public safety, specialized law enforcement resources, including crisis negotiators and tactical personnel, were activated while nearby apartments were evacuated as a precautionary measure. After several hours of negotiations, Wesley voluntarily exited the apartment and surrendered peacefully to law enforcement officers without incident.

The Thibodaux Police Department would like to thank the Gonzales Police Department, the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office, the Louisiana State Police, and all assisting agencies for their professionalism, coordination, and continued assistance throughout this investigation and today’s incident.

This remains an active and ongoing investigation. In an effort to protect the integrity of the investigation, additional details are not being released at this time. Further information will be made available at a later date as the investigation continues.
