Theresa Primary School

Theresa Primary School Learning--Our Key to Success! Theresa Primary is one of five primary schools in the Indian River Central School District. Lawrence River in Alexandria Bay.

Theresa is located 6 miles northwest of Philadelphia, NY on your way to the beautiful St. Theresa Primary School has an enrollment of approximately 220 students in grades K-3 and approximately 37-40 % of our student population come from military families. We have two buses that transport students who reside on Fort Drum to Theresa. Although it might seem far, the 17 mile bus ride is shorter/faster

than some of our local routes since it is a direct route to the school without stops along the way. The highly trained, professional staff keeps current with best practices and strategies through frequent staff development opportunities. The focus on Early Literacy through our Literacy Collaborative Program can be seen in the primary classrooms. We also offer a strong fine arts program, physical education program, and all classrooms have access to a computer laptop cart. Most of the classroom have smart boards and all have document cameras. The Character Education Program we use is called Character Counts. Character education is about celebrating what’s right with children while enabling them to develop knowledge and life skills for enhancing ethical and responsible behavior. Kindness is a language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see. ~ Mark Twain

Character Counts at Theresa Primary. We believe that good character should not only be taught in the home, but should also be actively reinforced in our school. Theresa Primary has a recycling team made up of third grade students. Everyone at Theresa is encouraged to recycle and reuse at home and at school. The team collects paper and weighs it each week and keeps a record of the recycled materials. Third grade students have the opportunity to volunteer to be a member of our safety patrol. The safety patrol is responsible for helping staff at dismissal by holding doors open and assisting students with getting on the correct bus. Theresa Primary has an active and supportive Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO). The PTO sponsors two fundraisers a year which provides the school with thousands of dollars every year to fund guest speakers/assemblies and field trips. The PTO purchases every child a school t-shirt each year. If you are interested in joining the board of officers on the PTO or just volunteering occasionally, please contact our volunteer coordinator Meredith Estrada at 315-628-4937.

Mrs. Normington’s 2nd grade class celebrated the end of their poetry writing unit with a Poetry Café. Each student selected their favorite poem, typed it on the computer, and performed it for the class. Students enjoyed a cozy café atmosphere with cookies and lemonade while listening to and celebrating one another’s writing. ✍️

Theresa Primary School’s K-1 concert, How to Be a Dinosaur, was a roaring success! 🦖🎶

Under the direction of the talented Mrs. Westlake, our students amazed the audience with their incredible performance, confidence, and enthusiasm. We are so proud of the hard work and dedication they showed leading up to the big night.

A special highlight was the partnership with our neighbors at Philadelphia Primary School, making this experience even more meaningful for our young performers. Our students truly showcased that they are budding musicians and artists, not only through their wonderful singing, but also through the amazing artwork displayed throughout the event thanks to our shared art teacher, Mr. Niedermaier. 🎨✨

Thank you to everyone who helped make this special evening one to remember!

On Friday, our kindergarten students hosted their annual Mother’s Day Tea! 💐

We were so excited to welcome our wonderful moms into the building to celebrate and honor them for all they do. Students enjoyed special time together sharing cookies and juice while making lasting memories. ❤️

A special thank you to the amazing ladies from Fort Drum EFMP for joining us and leading a fun sensory bag workshop! Each mom and child created an ocean-themed sensory bag together, adding an extra touch of creativity and fun to the celebration. 🌊🐠

Thank you to everyone who helped make this event so special for our kindergarten families!
