All fingers (and a few extra toes) accounted for in The Plains!

We want to thank the citizens and the Great Meadow Foundation for another safe and successful Independence Day celebration. Despite the heat, rain, and wind we were able to engage with our community and enjoy the festivities.

Happy 250th Birthday to the United States of America! 🇺🇸🎆

At approx. 10am today, RE1104 was dispatched along with RE1103 and M1111 to a multi vehicle accident on I66 at 25mm. RE1103 arrived to find several vehicles involved in the west and east bound lanes with an suv pulling a horse trailer that had rolled over. The trailer stayed upright during the crash.

RE1103 confirmed no injuries. Both RE1103 and RE1104 remained on the scene to assist with traffic control. The horse being transported was uninjured.

Here is a Fauquier Times article to accompany the photo from our previous post. This ambulance was purchased for $3,500. The cost to purchase and outfit a new ambulance today is around $450,000.

A special thank you to Ms. Kay from our local community Facebook group for sharing this piece of our department’s history.

This photograph, taken in April 1958, shows a Ford station wagon that served as our 2nd ambulance, but first new apparatus. At the time, our station was only a few years old, having been completed in 1954.

More than 65 years later, the three original apparatus bays remain largely unchanged, with additions being added on to the rear.

Present day Baileywyck Antiques and Virginia National Bank are visible too!

We are grateful to community members like Ms. Kay who help preserve and share these important pieces of local history.

This morning RE1104 responded to a traffic crash with entrapment at the intersection of John Marshall Highway and Pleasant Vale Rd.

Dispatch updated units enroute the vehicle was on fire. Bystanders were able to free the driver prior to fire and rescue arrival.

Fire and Rescue units extinguished the fire and provided patient care.

One patient was flown out by Aircare; another was transported by ground to a local hospital.

On May 28th in the afternoon, Stations 4 and 3 were alerted to a traffic crash on I66 E at the 32mm. E1104, RE1104, RE1103, and Medic 1103 responded. E1104 arrived to find a 2 vehicle rear end collision with no entrapment. Medic 1103 transported one patient. Units assisted VSP with traffic control.

On May 28th in the morning, RE 1104 was dispatched to a structure fire in Box 300, the village of Marshall. Caller reported their house was starting to fill with smoke and they were evacuating. RE 1103 arrived to find a light haze in the residence. After investigation, crews from stations 3 and 4 found a faulty electrical switch to a generator. Crews returned to service after ventilating the residence.

We are saddened to hear about the passing of our friend, neighbor, and honorary member of The Plains Volunteer Fire Company. Mr. Duvall has been a staple in The Plains and Fauquier community for many years and played a key role in assisting our company purchase Tanker 4 in 2019.

Yesterday we said goodbye to my beloved husband, cherished friend, and one of the greatest actors of our time. Bob passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by love and comfort.

To the world, he was an Academy Award-winning actor, a director, a storyteller. To me, he was simply everything. His passion for his craft was matched only by his deep love for characters, a great meal, and holding court. For each of his many roles, Bob gave everything to his characters and to the truth of the human spirit they represented. In doing so, he leaves something lasting and unforgettable to us all. Thank you for the years of support you showed Bob and for giving us this time and privacy to celebrate the memories he leaves behind.
