OMEA is partnering with Music Matters for a Statewide Instrument Donation Drive tomorrow! The OMEA District 17 drop off location is Glidden Hall at Ohio University from 9:00am-5:00pm. If you have an instrument you are no longer using, consider donating it tomorrow to schools in need across the state!

Did you know that right now, across Ohio, music teachers are holding instruments together with zip ties and tape just to get through the school day?

We surveyed music educators across the state — and the need is staggering.
🎺 Nearly 900 instruments are needed by Ohio school music programs
🎶 72% of responding schools serve Title I communities, where families simply cannot afford to rent or buy instruments
📉 Many programs report that students are being turned away from band entirely because there aren't enough instruments to go around
⚠️ Instruments in some programs are over 30 years old and have been deemed "beyond repair" by local music shops
Every child deserves the chance to play. Music education builds confidence, community, and academic success — but none of that is possible without the tools to make music.
Music Matters Ohio is collecting donated instruments to change that.
Whether it's a trumpet gathering dust in your closet, a clarinet your child outgrew, or a violin that hasn't been played in years — it could be the instrument that keeps a child in music.

Athens High School Band Class of 2026 Senior Spotlight!

Here is Jepson Prebe! His parents are Bob and Melissa Prebe.

Jepson has played percussion for 5 years and including snare drum in the Marching Green and Gold for 4 years. He has participated in Marching band, Concert band, Jazz band, Percussion ensemble, All-county Jazz band, Stuarts After School Music Program (AMP).

His favorite memory is working with the color guard and performing a flag routine during my junior year marching band show. Jepson plans to attend The Ohio State University majoring in Environmental Public Health.

Athens High School Band Class of 2026 Senior Spotlight!

Meet Olivia Dowler! Her parents are Shelly Dowler and Mark Dowler.

Olivia has played flute for 8 years and is also a majorette. She has participated in concert band, marching band, and honor band.

Her favorite memory is getting locked out of our hotel room with Asher.

Next year, Olivia plans to move on to college and major in engineering!

Next is Levi Scott! His parents are Robbie and Bridget Scott.

Levi has played percussion for 8 years. He has participated in Concert Band, Marching Band, and Jazz Band.

His favorite memory is riding all the creative and fun rides with friends on the Disney World Trip in 2026!

Next year, Levi will be going to Ohio University to major in Engineering Technology and Management.

Athens High School Band Class of 2026 Senior Spotlight!

Next is Asher Martin!

Asher's parents are Dezere and Kate Martin.

Asher has spun flag and sabre as a member of the Marching Green and Gold Color Guard and Winter Guard for 3 years.

Their favorite memory is coming to practice late to see that the majority of the guard had dressed up as them for hero day at school.

Next year, Asher will be attending Hocking College and double majoring in Forest Management and Wildlife Management

Meet Madi Stein! Her parents are Daniel and Stephenie Stein.

Madi has played trumpet for 7 years and was also one of the field commanders for the Marching Green and Gold this past season. She has participated in Marching Band, Concert Band, Solo & Ensemble, OU Honor Band, and All County Jazz Band.

Her favorite memory is going to Disney in 8th grade and her senior year!

Next year, Madi will be attending Ohio University and majoring in Musical Theater.

Next is Izzy Gilland! Her parents are Virginia and Mark Gilland.

Izzy has played percussion for 8 years and including snare drum in the Marching Green and Gold. She has participated in Marching band, Symphonic band, Pep band, Jazz Band, and Solo and Ensemble.

Her favorite memory is winning best percussion at her first competition.

Next year, Izzy plans to Attend Ohio university in pursuit of her bachelor's in nursing science.
