The Wasco County Sheriff's Office was honored to team up with our law enforcement and emergency services partners today at Fred Meyer for the annual “Shop with a Hero” event!

Local students paired up with first responders to pick out school supplies, backpacks, and essentials to get ready for a successful school year. Seeing the smiles on these kids' faces is what it’s all about.

Thank you to The Salvation Army and The Dalles Lions Club for sponsoring and making this day possible! We also extend a huge thanks to Fred Meyer for hosting us and supporting our community year after year.

Wasco County Clarifies Information Regarding Proposed Endowment Fund and BrightNight Solar Project

WASCO COUNTY, OR — Wasco County is issuing this statement to clarify information circulating regarding the proposed Wasco County endowment fund and the BrightNight Solar project in South Wasco County.

Wasco County does not currently have a tax abatement agreement in place with BrightNight. The current discussion of an endowment fund is based on one-time fees under existing abatement agreements.

It is also important to clarify that only funds attributable to Wasco County would be considered for investment in a County endowment fund. The proposed endowment would not include, control, or redirect revenue that may be received by other taxing districts.

Wasco County remains committed to transparency and responsible stewardship of public resources. Any future agreements, financial commitments, or endowment decisions will be subject to the appropriate public processes and will be clearly communicated to the community.

The County encourages residents to rely on official County information regarding the BrightNight project, potential tax agreements, and the proposed endowment fund.

Scotty Harrington

The "Above and Beyond" Award is established to recognize employees who consistently demonstrate extraordinary commitment, initiative, and performance that significantly surpasses the requirements of their regular role and contributes demonstrably to the success of their team or the organization as a whole. This award celebrates those who embody the spirit of excellence, leadership, and unwavering dedication.

Reasons for recognition:

In late July, while off duty Scotty came upon a motor vehicle accident. Scotty was able to give immediate first aid to an injured passenger before responders arrived to take over.

After completing our training program and transitioning to solo status in late June, Scotty stepped up significantly throughout July. He demonstrated incredible flexibility by picking up extra shifts and taking on overtime to support vacation coverage. We are deeply grateful for his dedication.

Colleagues respect Scotty for his clear and concise communication, describing his presence on the radio as "a breath of fresh air."

He has proactively volunteered to assist with projects. When tasked with these responsibilities, he has efficiently delivered high quality results. His initiative and adaptability are significant assets to the team. Scotty’s positive attitude and willingness to learn are also a welcomed addition.

A truly great dispatcher is hard to find, difficult to part with and impossible to forget. Scotty, we appreciate all you do.

Wildfire Update
Personnel on the Grasshopper Fire are preparing for another challenging day on the fireline today, with rising temperatures, declining humidity and gusty winds forecasted. Yesterday, similar conditions energized Grasshopper’s two most active zones – the Boulder Creek area in the southwest corner and the northwest corner east of Highway 35. Aviation resources aided firefighters on the ground to minimize fire growth.
Tethered logging operations are continuing to work to remove thick fuels in steep terrain, while other logging operators are removing wood and slash piles near Highway 35.
Where containment line has held on the eastern and southern parts of the fire, plans are being made to rehabilitate the dozer and hand lines to avoid erosion and other resource damage.
