While first officially observed on June 12, 2018, 72 years ago today, Harry S Truman signed the groundbreaking and historic Women's Armed Services Integration Act that allowed women to serve as regular members of the Army, Air Force, Marines, and Navy.

Depression. Exhaustion. Burnout. Stress. Those are just some of the words people are using to describe their experiences as caregivers.

Come say hi to some of our wonderful Home Fires Burning members as well as tour the new Veteran's Museum if you haven't already. Ribbon cutting it at 2:30PM.

With the Veteran's Museum getting ready for their big open house on November 11, 2-4pm with ribbon cutting at 2:30PM we have moved our Caregiver Basket to The Dalles Area Chamber of Commerce.

Prizes include: $ 50. certificate from Baldwin's Restaurant; $ 25. certificate from Klindt's book store; wine; fleece throw; towel, coloring books for adults, etc. Drawing will be held at the museum on Nov. 11th during their open house event.

We will be drawing the winner at the Open House.

Tickets are still $1/each or 6 for $5.

The Columbia Gorge Veteran's Museum will be having a ribbon cutting on November 11th from 2-4. Come check out the new exhibits.

We have extended the raffle period for our "2017 Caregiver Basket". This raffle is for everyone, so come to the Veteran's Museum and get your tickets.

Home Fires Burning will be having a caregiver basket raffle on September 16th at the Farmer's Market. Come get some information, buy a raffle ticket or two, and take home a coloring sheet that can be returned to the Veteran's Museum to thank our veterans and service members.

The Columbia Gorge Veteran's Museum is now open. It is a soft opening while they continue to build the inventory and displays.

Located at 203 E 2nd St. The Dalles, OR 97058 between the American Legion and The Vault.

Currently open truncated hours, M-F 10-3, Saturday is hit or miss and closed on Sundays. If there is a white sandwich board out front then come on in.

POW/MIA (Prisoners of War/ Missing In Action) ceremony will be held on Friday, Sept. 16th at 6pm at Sorosis Park in The Dalles.

Today a fellow The Dalles organization that supports veterans, Outdoor Adventures with Military Heroes - Oregon donated some fishing poles to our Tea & Auction. If you have not caught up with Outdoor Adventures, they are a wonderful group that help wounded combat veterans get back out into the wilderness to hunt and fish. They recently had a very successful Motorcycle Rally in Maupin.
