South Wasco Residents: Let’s Get Fire-Ready! 🏠🔥

Protecting your home starts with a solid defense. Through the Community Wildfire Defense Grant, we are offering FREE service work to help South Wasco County residents reduce wildfire risk on their properties.

Our specialized field crews from Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue and Wasco County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) are in your neighborhood helping to create resilient landscapes and fire-adapted communities.

📏 The "30-Foot Rule"
To ensure we meet federal grant requirements and prioritize the most critical safety zones, our crews focus their efforts exclusively within the first 30 feet around your home and outbuildings (Zones 1 and 2). This area is the most vital for reducing fire intensity and preventing radiant, direct flames, or airborne embers from reaching your structure.

How Our Crews Can Help:
Within that 30-foot perimeter, our teams can perform tasks such as:

Limbing: Removing low-hanging tree branches to prevent fire from climbing into the canopy.

Thinning: Reducing overgrown vegetation and creating fuel breaks.

Debris Removal: Clearing dead plants, pine litter, and accumulated fuels.

Grass Management: Managing grass height to slow fire spread.

Combustibles: Relocating firewood piles and other combustible materials at least 30’ from structures.

Who Qualifies?
Location: Residents in Pine Hollow, Pine Grove, Wamic, Tygh Valley, and Juniper Flat.

Eligibility: This service is prioritized for those who are unable to perform the work themselves or afford to hire assistance.

Requirements: A residence must be on-site (no vacant lots), and you must be present during the assessment and work.

Let’s work together to make South Wasco more fire-resilient! 🌲💪
