Last night at around 11pm an individual broke several glass doors at The Dalles Police Department and caused other minor damage. Our officers responded and took the person into custody for criminal mischief and burglary in the second degree. The person was lodged in NORCOR (the local jail). Our facilities staff responded, cleaned up the broken glass and we experienced no gap in service or interruption in our mission to keep The Dalles safe and provide service to our community.

We’ve seen a growing number of electric motorcycles and similar vehicles on Wasco County roadways recently, and there’s often confusion about how Oregon law applies to them.

In Oregon, full-sized electric motorcycles are treated the same as gas-powered motorcycles under state law. That means riders must have a motorcycle endorsement, registration, insurance, and required street-legal equipment.

Not every electric two-wheeled vehicle qualifies as an e-bike. If it exceeds e-bike speed limits or lacks operable pedals, it may legally be considered a motorcycle or moped.

Our goal is education first and helping keep everyone safe on the road. Please take a few minutes to review the information in the graphic below and make sure you’re riding legally and safely.

Dog owners take note! This is an easy way to ensure that your dog is licensed and conforms with city code. Thanks for your cooperation.

🐕‍🦺Dog Licensing now Available

All adult dogs kept within the City must be licensed by July 1, 2026. Licensing requires a current rabies vaccination certificate and payment of the applicable fee.

The City of The Dalles has partnered with DocuPet for the City’s required dog licensing program. Dog licensing helps ensure compliance with The Dalles Municipal Code while also helping protect your pet if they become lost.

Every City dog license includes a free personalized tag, access to DocuPet’s 24/7 lost pet service with live support, and an online profile that helps finders quickly report and identify lost pets. These tools help reunite pets with their families faster and provide an added layer of protection for licensed dogs in the community.

On 5-28-26 the Mid Columbia Interagency Narcotics Team (MINT) seized the pictured items during an operation authorized by a judicial warrant in The Dalles. These items include two fi****ms as well as co***ne and scales. One male adult was lodged in the Northern Oregon Regional Correctional Facility (NORCOR) for delivery of a controlled substance. Further charges are being evaluated.

As always suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The MINT team consists of members from The Dalles Police the Wasco County Sheriff's Office and the Hood River County Sheriff's Office.

Today, Tuesday May 26th, The Dalles Police Department will be hosting a high visibility seatbelt enforcement event. This event is in conjunction with the Oregon Department of Transportation. The use of seatbelts and restraints greatly reduces the chance of serious injuries and deaths in traffic crashes. We will be out and about in force to remind the citizens of this community the importance of taking the extra second to secure themselves with a seatbelt. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration:

- Forty-nine percent of passenger vehicle occupants killed in traffic crashes in 2023 were unrestrained (based on known restraint use). This number is astonishingly high when you realize that the national compliance rate of vehicle drivers that regularly wear seatbelts is approximately 91 percent.

- NHTSA has estimated that car seats reduce the risk of fatal injury by 71 percent for infants (younger than 1 year old) and by 54 percent for toddlers (1 to 4 years old) in passenger cars.

This is our favorite time of year. The weather is getting better and we get to visit kiddos all over town. We were excited to meet with the students at Sunshine Preschool today. Thank you to the school and the kids for the exciting morning.
