Q2 Airway Training continues!

Each quarter, crews across all shifts practice and are 'checked off' on advanced airway skills, to include adult and pediatric scenarios. Our members practice airway skills on mannequins of different age groups, which present anatomical differences. Mannequins with different disease processes— including our burned-airway mannequin, and swollen-airway mannequin— are also utilized at different times throughout the year, and certain training phases.

In commemoration of their retirements, Chief Thompson and Chief Bonds were honored to be presented on Tuesday with flags flown over the state capitol from Texas Representative Jared Patterson. Chief Thompson was presented with a proclamation letter from Mayor Boyer on behalf of the mayor and the city council, extending gratitude and heartfelt appreciation for his leadership, extraordinary service, and lasting contributions to our city and community.

Chief Thompson has dedicated 17 years as the Fire Chief for the City of The Colony, and 40 years total in the American Fire Service. Assistant Chief Bonds has served The Colony Fire Department for 25 years, and a total of 30 years in the American Fire Service. We are extremely grateful for their time, and lasting contributions to our city and our department. Chief Thompson was also presented with a custom axe from our association, as well as his city street sign- signed by our very own TCFD members, and employees of the City of The Colony.

Thank you Lewisville Fire Department and Chief Seese for spending time this week in The Colony training crews on lake rescue procedures and operations to promote smooth, cohesive and unified lake emergency responses. LFD provided instruction on how they perform underwater search, rescue, and recovery operations.

TCFD participated in training drills with Chief Seese that utilized witness information and statements to help pinpoint the last known locations of victims who had gone underwater and did not resurface.

These drills drove home the importance of water safety, increased alertness, and situational awareness for both yourself and others while spending time near bodies of water. As we approach the summer season, always remain aware of your surroundings and look out for one another while enjoying time on the water.

Asst. Fire Marshall Captain Perales, Sr. Inspector Scott, and Officer De La Cruz showcased fire and life safety tips for LISD students last week in The Colony. Topics covered included fire extinguisher training, understanding fire danger, evacuation of the home or apartment, calling 911, situational awareness and overall safety while home alone. We're grateful for these opportunities to educate our youth and promote a safer community for years to come ❤️‍🩹
